hey, Volvos are solid cars... we had an '83 GL and then my mom bought a '87 GLE (forgot what number). good cars but very boxy looking. should be a good temp car for ya.
Took a chance and drove the volvo back to my house and of course i got pulled over and ticketed $120.00 for driving with an expired sticker on the plates. At least they didn't get me for no insurance, then would be court and heavy fines. Oh well i got it here now, Not sure what to do now this volvo is a running car and i got it for free, was going to scrap it. Maybe i should fix this car, new paint and aluminum rims, tint the windows? lol too bad it's only a 4 cylinder engine.
those old volvos are tanks....I have a couple friends with the same type of cars...they beat the crap outta them and they are still running...I don't even know the mileage on them but it HAS to be a buttload
This one only has 90 000 miles on it but the transmission was rebuilt and a little funky since then also it runs a little rough, i think it needed fuel injector rails before and they never did find the part. Hard to get. Other than that it's in great shape. The right side of the car has been scraped down to the metal and is now rusting. That's why i was thinking to paint it. Just don't want to start wasting money on something if it's not worth it. The lumina i was looking at has 160 000 kilometers which is around 99 000 miles
The volvo has cruise control and power windows and fuel injection haha wow, for 1981 that's pretty sweet. I don't think they started using fuel injection until like 1986-1987
we had a i think an 81 or 82 GL. great car and azn is right, they are tanks. boxy looking but solid. looking at those pics brings back memories of me stealing the car when I was 12 or 13. free is free electro. how much do you think it'll cost to fix it up?
lol, ya it's a classic and antique for sure. Made in Sweden. Paint would be around $1000.00 i think. To change it to my name and get a trip permit will be like $100.00, i might do that tommorow then i can drive it until i get a safety and emisions test could be a problem. I don't think it would pass without work.
check this out. 1991 volvo 240 for $1500. looks clean. if you could spend about 1,500 and get it to look like this then i'd say go for it. if not, then just sell it and find something else. http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp;?tracktype=usedcc&searchType=22&pageNumber=0&numResultsPerPage=50&largeNumResultsPerPage=0&sortorder=ascending&sortfield=PRICE+ascending%2cPRICE+descending&certifiedOnly=false&criteria=K-|E-ANY|M-_49_|H-|N-N|R-10000|I-1%2c7|P-PRICE+ascending%2cPRICE+descending|Q-ascending|X-popular|Z-93536&aff=national&paId=290321500&recnum=26&leadExists=true
I'm in Toronto, budget is not much lol, if i can do a little at a time it would be better. Otherwise i was going to grab a loan. The engine is definetly missing, one cylinder is not firing or something so going to check the plugs and stuff and see if the engine is still good in the next few days. It's pretty solid other than that for being 27 years old. I'm thinking paint it shiny black with some aluminum rims, tint the windows and throw my system in it lol. woooooooooo
Black??? you sure about that? Volvo's look good silver but i just remembered your interior is brown so silver wouldn't look that good.... tint it and throw some rims on it then put a system in it and your set!!! Black is a B!TCH to take care of....
Ya your right black looks like kife on that car lol. Metallic silver or silver/grey is nice with aluminum rims and tinted windows. I bought a compression tester, will check tommorow. It's missing one cylinder, just want to make sure the engine is good before i start dumping money into it. .
