Thanks! Hopefully this sub will last through my abuse. I played some tones today , not very loud but had some power behind it. The car was off and on the 30 hz tone i noticed a crackling noise from the sub which kind of worries me. Just wondering if anyone else ran into this. I had my eq on and some sub boost so it wasn't just the plain signal and my car was off so it may have been struggling for juice. I have my other sub box in the trunk still, will try again tommorow and see if it still does it on the other subs.
Just wondering if you broke in your sub? would the cold affect to way it would sound or the break in process?
Just yesterday and today it was played, breaking it in slowly. Ya it must get freezing cold sitting in the back seat at night and then today i noticed the sun beating down on it, on the rubber surround so it's going through some hell i guess lol. Just don't like little crackling noises, hopefully it was clipping or something and not a mechanical issue with the sub.
I haven't cranked it at all yet even though i'm dying to hear it's full wrath of destruction lol. And my orion at 1 ohm which i never tried before ever.
It only did it on the 30 hz tone which is very deep and strong. So you think it was clipping? Not a problem with the sub right?
maybe it was playing below the boxs resonant freq. Elemental Designs News Blog ยป 12v Video Tutorials
Cool, Thanks, i can sleep good tonight now lol. Will watch the video tommorow, can't make noise now, it's quite time lol. I don't have tones lower than 30 hz on my cd. That makes sense though, i had my eq on, bass boost on and the low tone was too much for the sub. I won't be playing tones in the future, just wanted to see.
Weird though i was only playing it for like 5 minutes then i smelled what i thought was oil burning from the engine. The amp still powers up, maybe i melted the rca cable at the back of my deck from the deck's heatsink..haha slight chance, with my luck probably not though. grrrrrrrrr
electro, if i were you i wouldn't run that orion at 1 ohm. That's a very expensive amp and i know you don't want it to fry. Better to be safe than sorry.
