ya, my salt bucket lol, for the ice. If i can get this rack to look as nice as the bucket, i'll be rockin.. How many layers do you think this is going to take to be solid. 1 more thick one all around then the last one for touch ups?
ok, now it's freeeeeezing out, all my doors, locks, windows and wipers are frozen, i think one wiper broke trying to move and now my heater is not working anymore lol Fuk, i hate winter and it's too cold for me to fiberglass today grrrr
I just thought of something..These are all 12 volt fans, in my car they will be getting 13.8-14.0 volts, is there something i can get to limit the voltage to 12 volts?
I'm a little worried because they are booking it now at 12 volts, there will be almost 2 volts difference. I fried one already when i was testing a bunch of them, i didn't realize it was a 5 volt fan. You should have heard it go.. haha, sounded like a jet engine starting up. It smells just like a subwoofer being fried. I was thinking something like a cell phone charger that you plug into the cigarette lighter, take the parts out of that but i don't think it will put out the amperage i need. I figure they will take 3-5 amps all together at 12 volts.
i used to have a few itty bitty fans hooked up to my amps before the floor was put in and they were getting over 13v and they are just fine.imma put them back in on my 4ch amp.
Had one nice day today so i did the other side. 12cm of snow expected for tonight and coldddd for the next few days, And i have no heater in my car! I can see i'm going to need another big can of this bondo hair. Also some orion stickers i got from ebay, red metallic flake. Was thinking to put on on each side panel of the amp rack after it's painted and then start clear coating the whole rack overtop of the stickers too. Good idea?
Nice...If you can get a nice red flake finish...go for it. This should look really nice when finished
Yes! It's going to be quite the creation. The stickers are red metallic flake, my amp is deep red, the fans are lighted red, wiring will be blue. I'm stuck on the color for the amp rack though. Can't decide glossy black or red metallic flake. Not sure if i do it in red it might be too much. Trying to picture it in my head, i think glossy black would be a nice contrast. If i do black i know the rack will have to be 100% perfect no flaws as black will show any imperfections.
I'd say glossy black...you'll have A LOT of elbow grease to put in here. A lot of polishing to do after the clear coat to get it a nice smooth finish
Oh ya? I thought i could just spray it on, let it dry then spray another layer let it dry and keep going. Do i have to polish each layer? Can i get a buffer for my drill?
After the final sanding of the bondo...put down a few thin coats of primer. Then thin layers of the glossy black. I painted my 4 inch port glossy black in one of my ported boxes...it turned out really nice. I did multiple thin coats. It isn't a mirrored finished but its pretty smooth...there are a lot of little bumps I can feel though. If you want it to be perfectly smooth and mirrored finish you'll need to get some polishing compound and some muscle.
