Looking good electrolytic. I was just thinking, you are using plywood for that? Hope you don't have any problems with it later on. Wood moves a lot so you may run into some problems with a lot of waving or cracking later on with the bondo once you've painted it.

Plywood is more durable than MDF...I wouldn't worry about it.

A plywood enclosure can fall out the back of a truck and still be intact...an MDF enclosure...probably just break and fall apart

    Keep up the good work

Thanks!! Ya i'm a little worried about cracking later on but this thing is like cement, i glued all the pieces with wood glue then screwed and clamped it all together and it is 3/4 inch wood. I forgot about the power of elmers wood glue lol. Stuff works excellent. It's sitting outside my house right now frigin fumes, and it's like -15 degrees outside and snow on the ground. Hope it will be ok.

I do know that it's very durable. I just know that wood does expand and contract if there is more moisture in the air. It will last forever, that wasn't my concern. My only concern was if the wood would expand or contract would the dondo move with the wood or not.

I once had a huge entertainment center made of plywood and it had a glossy black automotive finish on it and i had to have it refinished about 3 times due to waving in the finish.

electro, are you planning to put an automotive paint finish on it? have to admit though, it is really looking good.

then again, i do live in the Philippines and it is VERY humid here. That may be a factor.

Well, i was planning on putting automotive gravel guard on it, it dries shiny but has little bumps in it. Either that or automotive paint, the same red as my car. I think it will be ok though, there is not a lot of big pieces and the top is like doubled up. Maybe i can put some more bracing for the sides, the rest is very solid, i don't think it has much room to move anywhere. If it cracks, no big deal, you will probably only be able to see the top of the box anyways once it goes in my trunk. I guess i would have been better off fiberglassing it, more stronger? Maybe i still can change to fiberglass.

ok, this sucks, i don't have an electric sander, too much work lol, i'm just going to sand down what is left, fill in some defects then spray it with gravelguard. That stuff is pretty thick and has little bumps in it so it should cover nicely.

Do you have any pawn shops nearby??

My dad's friend gave me a 20 year old craftsman orbital sander and it works fine...I use it all the time.

ya, i need to get a sander, well i think i will finish it in bondo, it's just a lot more work and hassle with these crappy conditions. I guess it will get done eventually.

Put the top pieces on and a little more bondo, need to buy some more, i only grabbed a small can.

nice...take your time. I'd rather take it slow and make it look nice

Yup, don't rush it. If you rush it then it won't come out nice. You're gonna have to get a sander though. If you try to do that by hand it will take you forever.

Gravel guard is a good idea, it will cover up small imperfections and it'll look good. I keep on looking at your pics and you really should have a problem with the wood moving. You're not talking about huge pieces of wood so i don't think it'll move and if it does, that gravel guard should move with it.

I know, my arms are like rubber now lol. I sanded it today with a block of wood and 80 grit sandpaper. If i spend a lot of time making it perfect then i was thinking to use automotive paint and clear coat. The only place i can see it might crack is on the top along the side pieces below the fan holes. But...lol this thing is like one piece now with the glue and screws and now bondo so the whole thing would have to contract or expand.

I got nothing new to say lol, but i'm out of bondo, so still trying to decide to get more bondo or change to fiberglass.

Get duraglass....its fiberglass reinforced bondo...it won't crack nearly as easy. If you let it cure fully you WILL need some kind of electric sander or else you'll be hand sanding for weeks...

Ya, i saw that there when i bought the bondo the first time, i seem to remember though that it is like insane to sand later. Would i need a grinder or can i do it with a regular sander. I know you can shape it when it gets to a certain point but when it's fully cured is it a real pain to sand? I'm getting cash today or tomorrow so will get a sander and more supplies.

I have a good drill, maybe i should get the grinding pad for that and the fiberglass.
