Well.... ScottS if you can get me that amp that would be sweet.... but... would I have to worry about blowing my subs.... they are 2-ohm 750 watt rated.....

You must remember or learn that its not power that blow's your subs. ITs distortion.

This will not blow your subs if you do not distort it.

Email me if you want one

    Scott...
    What were those tube amps...
Or rather, amps with tube preamps, that you were talking about at CES?

hmmm.....contrary to everything i have learned

only 2 ways to blow a speaker, mechanically and thermally

neither of which are related to distortion, unless, you are talking about amplifier clipping, which in reality, can lead to overpowering

on another note...those amps are mono correct?

so i will need 2 for my front stage?

and how long will you have them for?

In my limited experience, I have learnt that two things that kill speakers are ignorance and carelesness...

Cliping is distortion. If you clip your deck but your amp is properly "gained" will calls a Square wave if you will causeing the coil to "THERMALLY" heat up. Then BOOM there goes a coil Or shall i say a burn coils where your woofer becomes BLOWN like a fuse

As for the 2500D its a mono amp for subs only 2500RMS @ 1ohm

As for the HVT series they are 2 channel.

And SandT If you find a link let me know. I have not been able to fine a picture of these on the net.

HVT7150 is what i run. 150 rms each channel 4 ohms

what is amplifier clipping, I hear that term all the time, but I am not sure what that is...

okay, i was under the impression that the additional heat caused by the square wave(clipping/distortion) would have a minimal effect, and the power increase due to the clipping is what causes the thermal failure....i guess i have been listening to totoro to much....

i was referring to the hybrid tube amp...i don't know why...i was under the impression that they were mono amps...so i would need 1 per side

i am definatly interested in running one of these...how long do you expect them to be available to you?

Do you know what a clipped waveform looks like? If so, realize that the cone is moving just like the waveform looks. A typical unclipped waveform has greater movement, where a clipped waveform has an almost DC waveform (I know, it is not DC, but basically it has an "on" time rather than a progressive slope). It is this on time, and reduced movement that helps generate heat, and reduce movement of the driver limiting it's cooling ability.

As I am sure you can see, reduced cooling, and the additional generation of heat can lead to thermal failure.

but say you have a square wave

    current is proportional to acceleration

so the sub wouldnt really stay at the top of the wave
then move to the bottom of the wave

i.e., the cone is not gonna stay at max excursion for the
    flat part of the wave

it's going to try to move at constant acceleration in one direction
and then constant acceleration in the other direction

not varying acceleration, as in a sine wave
