basically if you stick to Pioneer and Kenwood and Alpine is ok, i dont like the fact that they have either a 2V or 2.5V preout on most of their decks. its not until about $260 that they finally boost it up to 4V. that dont really matter to you though, i dont think.

Went ahead and bought a Alpine 9886.
    paid $230 shipped for it.
    Bought the Polk speakers yesterday.
Bought an Am/FM antenna a couple days ago.
And then also today i won a 8gb ipod as well.
The 9886 comes with an ipod cable.
First time ive owned an ipod, if it doesnt work out, i'll buy a $2 USB extension and use a flash drive.

Well i bought the wrong set of speakers.

bought the DB521's which are not the component set, they are just coaxials.
Sold them and bought a set of components.

So far i have received the waterproof cover to the head unit, the Am/FM antenna and the amp.

Waiting on the head unit, speakers and amp wiring kit.

    Amp is mounted-

And for some reason, that picture makes everything look horrible.
It looks pretty damn nice in person for what it is and how much time i took on it.
Going to mount the crossovers in that same area as well.

    Components should be here tomorrow.

    Hell no. lol

I just got the speakers today.
    Right ones this time, yes!

Tomorrow im planning on starting on the enclosures.
Going to start with some cardboard, do some tracing and cutting.
Might end up taking the front end apart on the golfcart. I think that will be easier.
Rather take it part then have to drill holes in the front aluminum trim piece on the dash.

So yeah, tomorrow, going to start off with tracing some shapes on some cardboard and then im going to move those designs onto some thin, super thin plywood, and if everything works and fits like i want it to then i will move to some thicker wood that will be more permanent for the enclosures.

And it seems as if nothing is going as planned.

First off, it is virtually impossible to obtain both compartments on either side of the dash while plugging up the front of them with a piece of wood to mount the speakers/headunit.

    Why?

Well on both sides there is a brace for the roof, the hardware for it comes through the top and down into compartments on both sides.
In order to fasten the hardware both front pieces of the enclosures would have to go in from the front instead of the back. Problem.
The problem, there is a piece of trim that runs along the front that has a lip on it which i was going to use to help hold back the enclosures, so this is what keeps me from installing anything from the front.
Everything has to come in from the back.

So ive got it figured out at this point, im not going to be able to use either compartments to obtain a sealed enclosure.
I dont have enough experience to figure out how to secure the hardware for the roof with the compartments and the front piece of the enclosure in place so im having to ditch both compartments.

Im going to have to buy a pair of baffles to protect the back of either speaker since both will be open and not sealed.

It'll work out i just wish i could have both sides sealed.
Im going to have to make a box to house the cd player as well.

Ive got the left side mocked up, i have to recut the wood because i didnt center the 5 1/4" speaker so it looks a little funky when installed on the cart.

Pictures i took right before cutting wood and fitting a couple things in place.

Cardboard i cut for design and outline-
    [IMG]

All torn down, cant believe i had to take this much off just to get to the compartments.

I'll resume and come close to finishing tomorrow.
I just got done ordering the baffles, should be here by friday i hope.

    Made alot of progress today.

Recut the left speaker mount and got the right side cut out as well.
The set of speakers are mounted, the left side is completely wired in, the right side is mounted but not wired.
The headunit is mounted and 99% wired.
I need to run the accessory wire over to a toggle switch and then it will be done.
I check the left side and god damn does it sound good!

    I'll be finishing it tomorrow.
Im tired and called it a night about an hour ago.
Worked on it for about 3 hours today.

Been having problem with one of my dogs, in and out of the ER, so thats slowing me down and bringing me down as well.
Hopefully everything turns out to be ok though.

looks good so far... so the speakers won't be in any kind of an enclosure now?

No, but both mids will be enclosed in they're own baffle.

Everything is already well protected by the front end of the cart, not worried about weather really.

Only enclosure i am going to be making is for the cd player it self.
