Hmm... you wouldn't happen to have a link for this sail panel would you? Is the sail panel the triangular piece by the mirror?

If I did have to pick one of those 3 which should it be? Mirror? Middle? Wood?

I read that magazine article. Unfortunately the sail panel doesn't detach from the rest of the door panel in my car. I think I'll just try to flush mount it in the sail panel. But before I do that, do we all agree that's the best spot?

I do, I do, lol I have mine by the mirror, the highest spot you have in the picture, it sounds great, it looks like you have a nice spot there.

The process would still be the same. But if you don't have to make one then don't. The point of the article is for you to see how simple something like that can be. That method can be applied to other projects.

    I vote for sail panel.

I was not critizing. I think thats the neatest thing I've seen. I wonder how we could make it look cleaner?

Oh yeah, definitely. I want to try fiberglassing really bad... as soon as I get some money.

Oh yeah, so I don't have my door panels on right now and I've still been driving my car... today a tropical storm hit where I live in Florida and when I parked my car in the driveway and turned off the engine I could hear water dropping inside the doors... I need something inexpensive to protect the speakers.

I was looking at these, but it seems they got mixed reviews. It looked like people lost bass from using them. I suppose I could cut a hole on the underside of them when they're installed.... or I could buy the 5x7 size, which is the stock speaker size for my doors, so the 5.25's would have some air around them.

I got mine at a wrecking yard. The ones I bought came out of an 89 Thunderbird, the rear speakers have the baffles. I believe that 88 - 90 will also have the 5 x 7 baffles. Remember, its only the rear speakers that have the baffles

    Alright check this out.

That's what it would look like if I surface mounted it.

    Surface mounted again.

There's the flush mount cup sitting upside down on the sail panel. As you can see it's too big and this won't work.

    I could flush mount there.

I could flush mount there, or surface mount if I wanted to.

I could flush mount there, or surface mount, or angle surface mount.

    Angle surface mount.

This what flush mount looks like...

For me looks is everything, we need to flush mount if at all possible. Can it be flush mounted in front of the Power Seat switches? I really don't wanna put the tweeters too low and thats as low as we should go. Also place the tweeter as far forward as possible. Also its easier to flush mount on a flat surface

seems like you would still want the tweeters more forward and more directed towards you, i think the sail mount would work best.

I would normally agree. Except surface mount always looks tacky. The only time I like tweeters pointed at me is if both are an equal distance from my ears.

When tweeters are not an equal distance, I like to point them to a point where I want the sound to appear to come from. In my own truck, they are both pointed toward the center of the windshield.

On the wood grain like in the pic? Yes.
Directly in front of the wood grain? No.

On the wood grain. Flat surface is easier to work with.

That wood grain stuff is easy to damage so take your time, I would tape it off with masking tape or blue painters tape to protect the surrounding area.

    Again take your time.

I can't decide. I either want to surface mount on the sail panel or flush mount on the wood grain.

I wish the tweeters were black not gray... then they wouldn't look cheesy.
