i dont follow.they should sound the same.your only adding bass.if crossed over proporly they souldnt distort when you add the sub back in.or are you talking about the rear speakers.because without a baffle of some kind the air pressure from the subs will make those rear's blowup.

that air is going to want to get out and the surrounds on the rear speakers might tear.kind of like a passive radiator.

What I meant was, I wonder how it will sound when I'm only using the front 5x7's and the sub... no 6x9's in the rear deck.

It seems like the 6x9's get too drowned out from the bass to make a huge difference in sound, and they're always vibrating from the sub.

I was also wondering if I could put the 6x9's in some MDF boxes and put them on the backseat floor or something to get a little more rear fill.

What you could do is leave the 6x9 openings empty so the bass can enter the cabin more easily...then make some small mdf enclosures for your 6x9's or a couple 6.5s side by side in the center of the rear deck

    just and idea

That's what I was thinking too. I just need to make them hidden somehow so my car looks stock.

well.........that might require some cutting.then your in the same situation.unless you can surface mount them.then go for it.

but the easiest way is to not use them for now. or this may sound getto.years ago a friend of mine had the same problem.air pressure from his sub was flopping his 6x9's around.
he got a shoe box and taped them to the back of his speakers.now since you have all that deadner use some of that to stiffen them up.no one will see them, and it works.

Yeah I was thinking maybe a sweatshirt over the MDF boxes on the rear deck or mount them inside something inconspicuous.

I've decided to get some 16x7" rims so I can keep my new toyo tires and save money. I'm thinking some american racing or pacer rims... truck style rims.

If I built an MDF box for the two 6x9's how many cubic feet should it be? One chamber? Two chambers?

    it doesn't matter...make it small

smaller the box the less bass...but that doesn't matter cuz you have a sub.

You can just build it to fit however you like

Alright now I'm wondering if my ****ty coardboard material rear deck can handle the weight of these 2 speakers and MDF... the box is going to weigh like 10 lbs... and the coardboard material rear deck sits like 1" above the metal.
