The only reason I ask is because all these "400rms watts" "800rms watts" and "1200rms watts" mean nothing now because I have nothing to compare them to now that I know my 800rms watt audiobahns probably weren't pushing 800.

The cvr12 goes for about $80 shipped on ebay, and the 400.1 goes for about $175 shipped on ebay....roughly $350 total after box.

Does this sound like a good plan? Or is there a better setup I can get for the same price?

one cvr 12 in a big ported box will pound

How many cubic feet should I aim for?

I'd go for biggest recommended if you got the room....but a lotta port also

Kicker recommends 2.25 cubic feet+ port displacement (3"x12.5"x20.5" long).

Okay, I'm confused. After I start winISD, pick the driver, pick vented box, this is what comes up [IMG]

Now, what does this mean? Is this like the optimum box? What should I be changing here, the volume? the frequency?

What you chose is prolly the maximally flat...meaning what box will give you the flattest frequency response without any high peaks.

All you have to do is open up another window and plug in the box specs that kicker recommends...but everything they recommend is very peaky....I mean very...nothing close to a flat response

    so what should I do?

well just design your own box to how you want it to sound...mess around with volume and tuning

Well what do different frequencies sound like? like 20 vs. 30, and 30 vs. 40?

20, makes NO sound to your ears, but rattles all kinds of things
30, you can kind of hear it, but it just sounds like a theunder clap
40, BOOOM bang and get with it boom boom bass niggas!!!

If you can do an HONEST 40 HZ in your car, kick ass...Dig it an like it........

Wow, this thread just wont freekin die, I LIKE IT.......

    Keep posting you dillrods!!!

If you can only kind of hear 30 how come everybody was tryng to get me to tune my box to like 30-32 earlier in this thread?

To stop you from Launching your subs into the next week.....ya know, broken tinsel leads, surrounds pking out, spiders breaking...... Its just a general rule of thumb to have one tune the box on the low side so as to help eliminae mechanical failure of a sub......Most jackasses who run a vented box think it can kick ass at the low end of the frequency spectrum, It CANT!!!!!!!! unless designed that way.....

The advice for the tuning frequencies you mention is a good thing id you cant respect a system, which MOST dont. If you cna respect the volume level of the sytem, and like it loud, then a higher tune is a good thing, that or a cold beer in the crotch of pamela anderson....either is OK with me...

what were we talkin about?????????/OH YA. PAM and pARIS In my bedroom at the same time....thats a good thing....

I think I understand...so around 30 is for people who just crank their music to the maximum even though there's a ton of distortion, and around 40 for people who know when to stop turning up the volume.

    Yes, No, and kind of.................

crank it till the amp clips, you will blow a 4000 watt sub with a 500 watt amp. Put a sub designed for 500 watts into a box made wroing, and it will mechanically fail with 50 watts of power.....

the lower tuning allows for a higher threshold of abuse, too a point.....

Look, if you can respect a system and want maximim BOM BOOM.....tune it higher, and enjoy the cops aressting you for loud music factor.....

Vented box,m tuned at 35 - 40 hz......you WILL like it yu little wanna be............

Okay I got ya, 35-40. Now,

I need to decide how many cubic feet the box should be. Kicker recommends 2.25 plus port displacement, does that seem to small to you guys?

seems fine...but if you plug those into WinISD the boxes are peaky and they are all tuned to like 40Hz.

Like Viking said...you must know how to respect the systems limits...vented boxes tuned to 30-40 hz cannot hit much lower than 20-25 Hz without mechanically breaking something....look at the excursion graphs in WinISD...below tuning the excursion goes up exponentially at a very fast rate...meaning be lets launch this sub

Depends on the box...some subs may have a smooth response curve with a 40Hz tuning in a certain box while another may need a 25 Hz tuning to have a smooth curve in the same box...depends on a lotta sh!t man.

Also what version of WinISD is that??? looks a lot ghetto'er than what I have.

If you tune lower than specs call for, and overpower the subs, you will end up with a couple of over-excurting subs, and that almost always ends in some sort of mechanical failure. It's a surefire sub killer. You want to tune just a little higher than specs if you want your equip to last longer (especially if you plan on exceeding power recommendations)

and yeah.. wow.. this thread really won't die.. is this a record for us?
sorry I missed most of it.. 7days a week at work is really cutting into my computer time. - still following the regimented beer schedule, though!
