BassBox Pro subtracted the area that the port takes up, So the box volume is listed at 1.588 because it assumes the port is taking up 0.162 cu ft. Total box volume of 1.75 was entered.

If your total box volume is more than that let me know, I can readjust the box volume. But the results will be similar.

I don't care what a software generated prediction says, im talking about experience..

And so am I. I have never seen one instance where changing a speaker resulted in louder. Not once.

Now, I've only built somewhere between 300 to 400 boxes, so I'm no expert, (an expert has built over 500 boxes) and loaded them with just about every brand of woofer. And in NO case have I recommended a woofer because it was "louder". I know better and I refused to lie to a customer.

And in every case, where a customer replaced a woofer with a "better" woofer, they were always disappointed. Because there was no change. I've seen this happen almost a hundred times in my 12-years.

Now, excursion is a power waster. Manufactures use it to protect thier woofers and cool cheaply made voice coils. Moving the voice coil more helps it cool and handle a little more power. Also, doubling Xmax protects the woofer from over excursion, because now it take 4 times the power to make it reach its limit.

The software I use is very accurate, if you have any experience as an installer you would know that.

When I reached an SPL of 168, It was because of software, (that helped me design the box), an above average understanding of basic physics and an exceptional understanding of mathematics. Whether you believe it or not, sound can be modeled mathematically. Sound is governed by the laws of physics and it can be modeled.

Again, please show me how excursion moves more air.

    WHOA there....

I have built in excess of 500 boxes....probably closer to 1500 over the years (no im not kidding)

Now. I dont claim to know it all. never will. But Ranger is right. There is a science to this. And yes Diesel...experience has ALOT to do with what to do in the fabrication of enclosures! No doubt!

But over the years, as these programs came out, I was at first skeptical. I did them (boxes) on a nomagram and a book . with the right software, you would be amazed at what you can predict in driver performance and vehicle integration. Dont knock it my friend.

    Now with that said...

XMAX ......HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HOW LOUD IT GETS!!!!! other factors are more important than that.... If you want a driver to play stuff low and loud, and have an amp, and vehicle long enough to produce the waveforms at 25 Hz.....with musical content to support it, then we MIGHT have an issue to discuss.

We dont hold grudges for your opinion Diesel ...You are entitled to them and we all respect them as long as they are somewhat accurate. So please dont take any of what we say as wrong...as Ranger said...show us proof and we will agree.

Hello everyone. I have sorted out my delima. So, as most know, I currently have installed 2 12" JL Audio 12wO's in a bandpass box, JL J2 1000 watt amp, 1.5 farad cap. My issue was the the bass doesn't sound right. And I posted a thread about this. Many have told me the bandpass box is not the right fit for the subs.

So, what I did was I bought one JL 12w7 and I found a reputable person that builds sub boxes. He built me a vented box according to JL Audio's spec for the sub and for the trunk of my 1996 Nissan Maxima. The vent will be placed exactly where you can pull down the arm rest in the back seat and pull down another plastic door that opens to the trunk. I bought a JL 1000.1/v2 Slash series amp that will push the sub only. I have a Kicker 350 watt amp that will be installed to push the interior speakers. I also bought a Tsunami 10 farad cap.

Right now, I have 8 gauge amp wire. That will be all replaced with 2 gauge wire going to the JL 1000.1/v2 amp. My friend installs car audio and he helped me alot with the selections and of course he's going to install everything. I'm waitng on the sub box and the cap. The cap is coming tomorrow and the sub box is coming on Saturday. My ride will be bumpin' on Sunday :)

I attached pics of the sub box. Please let me know how my decision and selection of hardware is. Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks

It looks top notch to me,but what do you need a cap for?The jl amp you're going to use has plenty of caps built in.

I really like that box, and let me know how the port thing works. Normally I would not like to see a port firing behind the woofer, but it looks like that box seals the front from the back when its in place. Looks like it will work good

That may actually work well and I think you'll be much happier with this than your previous set up

I really hope it will work better than my current set up. The port will bring air in the car opposed to the air bouncing around in the trunk. Hopefully, there will be less vibration. But I don't imagine it will. I bought the cap just in case my head lights dampen as the bass kicks, as it does with my current set up. If I don't need the cap, then it will be returned.

My friend was supposed to do the install yesterday but he had 4 other cars to do before mine. Needless to say, the install did not happen yesterday. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this Sunday coming. I can't bear the site of my equipment just sitting around when it should be in the car, lol! But patience is a virtue. I will post pics with the install and let you know how it sounds.
