So I have a few new questions, How big of subs could I fit in the area I mentioned before. I'm more curios than anything else. Which way should the subs be facing if they are in a sealed box? Toward the front or towards the back? how do you calculate how much power the amp needs to power a given pair of subs? Is it worthwhile to have an amp going to the rear deck speakers?
Yes...it is worthwhile to amp up your interior speakers...the sound is much clearer and can get much louder. I would rather suggest amping the front speakers first than the rears. My friend has factory fronts and pioneer 6x9s in the back that are amps...It sounds like crap with all of the sound coming from behind you. I just got my ED SQ10 in today...slimline sub...can fit virtually anywhere. as for power for subs...depends on the final impedance with all woofers wired and the output you want...there is no need to power a sub to its limits
I just finished reading through the indtroduction to Car Audio site. I really understand things alot better now. So I've been reading and it seams like people like to emphasize that the enclousure is more important than the subs in it. How hard is it to build a good enclosure? MFD seams to be the preffered material, how thick should it be? Sealed seams to be the easiest to make, what are the advantages of a ported bos over a sealed one?
Well...the enclosure is the main deciding factor of the sound coming from the subwoofer. MDF not MFD(sure it was only a typo lol...but I am the spell check of this site lol) MDF is good because it is dense, cheap, and easy to work with. But it is pretty tough on bits and blades. It is not hard at all to build a good enclosure...eazy has never built an enclosure in his life and he built one that I designed for him. And Boostd just built his own enclosure. Sealing all interior seams is essential because air leaks are bad...very very bad...they degrade the sound...kinda like a leak in a head gasket, the engine will still run but not as well As for ported vs. sealed, you can find many many comparisons online if you search. here is a very good site that is very helpful http://www.diysubwoofers.org/
guy at my shop has a caprice SS and he just put three 13w3v3's in the trunk. and still had space for an amp rack. So trust me, that trunk is BIG. you won't have any trouble with space. but make sure your subs aren't too smal because you'll loose a lot of that bass in the trunk and you won't hear it in the front seat.
Would two of the 8inch assasians be enough. I don't really want bass that vibrates my mirrors so much you can't see out of them, I just want it to be nice and loud.
The deck that I had picked out earlier is now no longer bering made?? So I picked out a different deck. Here's what I'm thinking right now, http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Xt1qdLn9bX6/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=300&I=500CDE9870 to go with it, http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Xt1qdLn9bX6/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=300&I=500CDE9870 Is this gonna be a good deck? If you guys aprove I'm putting in an order tonight.
I was just looking at crutchfield and realized that the deck I mention above isn't spendy enough to get the free mounting kit and harness. So I picked out a little more expensive one and the price comes out to the same with the free harness and mounting kit. So how about this deck, http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Xt1qdLn9bX6/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=300&I=500CDE9873
I just want to get a deck that will last and be capable of my future upgrades. Anyone else got anything to say about this deck?
So I finaly has a reason to pull my door panels off, so I took a pick of the stock door speaker. I was searching the net for dampening materials for my car, I want this thing to be Mercedes Benz quiet when I'm going down the road. I found this place and was wondering if anyone has heard of or used their products? http://www.quietcoat.com/index.html
I got my deck today and got right to putting it in. I used crimp conecters for the wires marine grade with heatshrink on them already and some special anti corsion stuff on the inside. Everything went in easy, I only had to tweak the mounting adapter a little. The cable for the Ipod was one of the harder parts, couldn't fit my mits in where I need them. I am very satisfied so far with this hu. An aftermarket hu really wakes up the stock speakers. The other thing I like is that it isn't that bright at night, you can see all the buttons easily. The hu in my last car was so bright it was slightly distracting at night. I will have more to say after a few more days of driving.
