Alright, I know forsure that I do not want a sealed box, I've heard the difference played with a sealed then a vented enclosure, the vented produce deeper and louder bass, and it was with a 6.5 inch sub and it didn't sound bad. I will try and do a bandpass, can you give me some sort of idea with the graphic that i have made Edit, when you tune a bandpass box, I get real good on WinISD, I have it tuned to 66Hz, and it's at 7dB on the little rating thing, but when I tune it to 40, it's real low. [IMG]http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e261/Sl0wm03/pipecompare1.gif But I heard ya'll say it's good to tune it to 38 - 42 Hz, or is that only for vented enclosures
The blue line indicates a 9 decibal gain @ about 70Hz, with a -3dB point of 40 Hz. This box will be very loud! And on the peaky side in the 50-90 Hz range....Would i like that box? probably, I like loud "fast attacking drums in your chest " kind of sound....But it may be a bit annoying for the times you want your sound sytem to be more accurate in its sound...which can be corrected to a point with some equalization. The red line indicates a smoother response, IT WILL NOT play effectively lower than the red line however! If you like the bass type of music in the lower registers, it will yeild slightly more ouput, but not alot.... A bandpass box will so some amazing things really.... You mentioned tuning it to 40 Hz...WAY too low for a single reflex desgn that you are showing. Play with front and rear box volumes and tuning frequencies....You might arrive at something you really like. Also might trying to run a dual reflex design...this will yeild a high output similiar to the single reflex desgn, but will give a more broad coverage of the lower registers...BUT, the discplacement limited power handling drops dramtically about hald an octave or so below the lower tuned chambers frequency, this means it will launch itself into next week if you get stupid with the volume and bass boost controls....
I mostly listen to rap music, you know, some songs will have the bass hold, and that's really what I like and consider it to "bump", you know a song like Three 6 Mafia - Late Night Tip, with the long good bass lines. But thanks for your help, I'm going to try and come up with the sizes to this box to fit, i can't go 4.7ft^3, so I'm going to have to make the box a little taller instead of wide. Since you have been with boxes, what is the material that is clear, you can see through the box, I don't know if it's glass. Just for my curious information, I might want some of it on the sides. I'm going to do some graphics and see if my idea is accurate.
........you are reffering to plexiglass. It can be laser etched, polished out and lit with neon for a cool effect, use at least 3/4 inch plexi. Not very cheap, but makes for a nice touch
the clear stuff is called plexi-glass.. and there are stronger versions of such, and weaker.. some people love it, some hate it. I personally like it. but if you like the bass, especially the three six mafia, (especially late night tip), then be sure that you port and tune your box solidly enough to give adequate back pressure for your subs.. -essentially, don't give them too much room to move, because they WILL use it, and that can be detremental to your subwoofers. You can over excurt them, and that will make you not happy. so, if you design something on win, and your design calls for a 3 inch port, DONT make it 4 inch just for good measure... pay very close attention to the limitations of your subwoofers.. and most importantly.... enjoy the build, and document it, and be proud to show it off.
Alright plexi glass, one of my good friends parents, both of them work at a place where they make plexi glass, might can get some depends. Exactly, show it off, which is what I want to do with the loudness. Depending on the price I get them at, I might build one out of plexiglass just because I will be making a bandpass box. With the MDF all they will be hearing is the bump without being able to see them. Does plexiglass need any certain kind of glue to seal it? and with just normal screws. (First box if ya'll didn't know)
Might have a problem, I was thinking how the wiring would go, well not go..... but I was thinking each sub will have it's own front chamber + ported chamber both 1.2 cubic feet, if they ahve their own chamber, then how would I put the terminals because originally planned parallel wiring. Will wiring them sub by sub by sub by sub effect the power of anything? If not, then I'm gonna begin making the box.
