yes its normal... my question for u sir... is why are u feeling the heat sink? and why is it not installed in the dash?? lol
the first thing id do is put an after market deck in with sub outs... and get a new amp that will push those subs :)
its pretty normal... the heat sink is gonna be hot because its dissapating the heat :)... they have features which will shut them down if they get...

not exactly sure the year i guess.. its brand new though.. and its an Re Audio SRi dual 4 ohm.. brand new in the box.. and it can go in either...
