I want to take 2 SW7200's and wire them to hifonics BXi 1206D. But how do I take the 2 4 ohm subs and wire them down to 1 ohm's? Or can't I since the subs are rated at 4 ohm's?
well if they're dual 4 Ohm then that means that if they're wired in parallel then each sub will be 2Ohms then so long as both subs are bridged to the amp then the amp will see both 2Ohms as 1Ohm. it just divides in half the whole way through.
Ok I think I get what your talking about. Since the rms for the SW7200's are 500rms and the Hifonics BXi 1206D is 1200 watts at 1 ohm, does that mean that each sub will be getting 600watts? Will it sound good do you think?
its good to over shoot slightly with the amp, because if u had an amp that was rated at 500rms then it would have to be turned up all the way to put out that rating and that can lead to clipping which puts high voltages from the power supply straight into your subs which will probably blow em. so when your out and about bumpin ur sound system just pay attention to how its sounding. if its distorted then back off and you'll be alright. OH and it'll bump pretty hard
one more thing, what kinda box do you think I should use, I don't want to spend over $100 on the box.
amps put out high voltage ac as power...if you clipp the amp bad enough it could send some DC voltage through the outputs and burn up a sub quick
