I am looking at getting an amp for my two 10" Alpine SWR-1042 subs. They are rated at 500 watts each RMS and 1000 watts max. I was looking at three amps. Two Hifonics one Pheonix Gold. Hifonics BXI 2006D (RMS = 1 x 2000 @ 1ohm and 1 x 1300 watts @ 2ohms). Cost about 320 + shipping Pheonix Gold R15 (RMS = 1 x 1000 watts @ 2 ohm) Cost about 230 + shipping Any suggestions?
Um with those subs you can either have one amp and run it at 1 or 4 ohms. Or have two amps running each sub at 2 or 8 ohms. The Hifonics BXI 1606d will do fine...I have a ****ty Profile HA1000 hooked up to two Type R 12's at 4 ohms bridged and it sounds fine...pretty loud too even though each sub it getting about 200rms.
Do you think I am better off with the 1606D (Appx 275 shipped) or would the 2006D (Appx 350.00 shipped) be too much power?
bottom line. Buy as much power as you can afford, I know that sounds like a cop out answer, but it aint! you will always want more More clean power is beter than less distorted power! Trust me, and your subs will thank you! (assuming you have them in a properly designed box)
Personally I'd say either one but if you have the cash than get the 2006D. You wouldn't have to run it as hard therefore meaning cleaner power and a cooler running amp. Also the power handling is greatly affect by enclosure type and volume. In some instances you can achieve max output of the subs with half power. Just some food for thought.
