I'm looking to upgrade the amp powering the front speakers of my car. I am going all of my system into an a 95 acura integra hatch. here is what will go in. this stuff is currently in my other car. I am currently running a lower end pioneer head unit with boston acoustic pro 60's in the front, stocks in the rear, with 10" JL W3's in the JL custom enclosure. The pro 60's powered by a JL 300/4 v2, and the subs by a JL 500/1. The pro60's 6.5" components. I am not satisfied with the sound coming out of the JL 300/4 v.2. It could be the headunit affecting sound quality as well. I will post the headunit model number latter today to give you a better idea of what I have. So my question is which amp would you recommend for around $300 to power the boston acoustic pro 60's in the front?
like you said the head unit may be the cause of the sound quality issue. i know of a member on another forum that swapped heads from an older high end head to a new low end unit and his sound quality went out the window. his d/a convertor on the new head was an 8 bit and the old one 24bit. JL amps are good products. i dont see how it could be the problem.
yea...i was thinking it was the headunit all along. i used to run a deh-6800. that was a really nice amp but the sub output went bad. had to a make quick decision on an amp at the car audio shop that was checking the amp since i didn't want any downtime for the system. time to swap it for another. how do you like the 7800? the thing i like look for in headunits is if it's clean, it has a dedicated sub control, and ease of use for the EQ. What kind of EQ does it have? is the user-interface user friendly?
so u want a new HU? If so, go for this one. Cant go wrong with a new Pioneer. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_12270_Pioneer+Premier+DEH-P700BT.html
i love the 7800. it has a 16 band eq, xover's for both front and rear independently controlled, sub out with xover, and time alignment which is very nice. very user friendly indeed
