Dear Ben, do you need a one DIN or 2 DIN head unit? Please check your height, 50mm is for single din, 100mm is for 2 din. Then to tell you the truth, it's possible to get a good single HU easily even under 150, but for double din, seems impossible...

its a single din. the only thing that I really need is for it to have front, rear, and sub preouts...I have a 5 channel 1000w amp, kenwood 6x9 rear, infinity 6.5 fronts...no sub yet but looking.I just want as good of sound as i can get.

There are a lot out there for your needs. look at pioneer premier head units or Alpine.. Would you also want a head unit with T/A (time alignment) settings?

well, time alignment is setting the timing from different speakers. it's more for SQ heads.

go for a simple stereo that has 4 or 5v preouts..

what is the exact model of your 5 channel amp? I may have asked this before, i forgot so refresh my memory if i already asked you that.

as far as the size of the sub, it's all up to you and what your goal is for having a sub? what kind of music do you listen to? do you want crazy bass or just a little boom in the back? if you want stronger bass i would say go with a bigger sub like a 12" or higher depending on what your amp puts out
