If you use dial up and it costs more than $15 per mo, would you be interested in switching to a new provider?

I have been toying with adding a new service to my company, and being my own ISP might be it

Just trying to get a feel for the market

there will probally be 2 levels, Free and "premium" the free will require you to fill out

Free Service provides internet access to you free of charge as long as you complete one offer each month. There are many types of offers, such as applying for a free credit card or joining a club. Completion of an offer is a substitute for a monthly payment. If an offer is not completed, the customer pays a monthly internet access fee

The monthy fee I have not decided on, but it will be betrween 12-15 per mo

I use cable at home (Road Runner)

we just got Bell South DSL at the shop. I used to have DSL at home, but I was having compatability issues with my external modem and my Windows ME.

It has been 3 years since I had dial up, and after having used broadband in my own home, I would NEVER go back ;).

Phone service is through Verizon. I haven't researched enough to know exactly what it will cost. I just went to my dad's and used his recently acquired DSL (Earthlink) and it changed my view on my "good enough" 56k service. I believe Verizon is advertising on TV for free software, hardware, and the first 6 months for $30 per month. I believe it's $40ish/month thereafter.

all the DSL users should come on the cable bandwagon...when i went from DSL to cable...it was like when i first went from dial-up to DSL...and it's getting faster in a few months:D

as far as your idea...i would think any dial-up service you could offer for under $15 a month would be worth while

the city i live right out of (manassas, va) is starting a BPL service in the city...

it will be broadband service supplied through power lines....there has been a lot of controversy over it because of the power lines being unshielded....reason is...a lot of shortwave radio signals are sent in the same freq range and the bpl service could interfere with that (since the wires aren't shielded) ... and not only will the lines radiate signals, they'll also be RECEIVING signals...which leads to interference all across the board.... it's a really interesting thing with different people's opinions on it

it will be the first city in america to go past the trial point and into actual use..

other countries have already tried it...some failing to use it, others banning it altogether....

Im using DSL too, Im not all that thrilled with it. The modem always locks up and Im always having to reset it. I want to change to cable modem, just been to damn lazy to pick up the phone and order it. Also upload speeds on DSL suck, I think they are about as slow as 56k. Id have to agree with delvryboy, all my friends have cable and it seems faster than my connection.

the inherant problem with cable is that the more people in your "network" that use it the slower it gets, that is why you see most cable companies advertising "up to" numbers,

I peak at 1500kbp down, but at peak times I have seen it crawl to 750kbps

    dont think, know

    www.testmyspeed.comwww.testmyspeed.com

Pick one closest to your Cable Provider network Hub, if you dont know, ask them

This will give you, your networks Speed, if you select one accross contry and you get a low speed it may not be your ISP, but other other Netowrk interfering
