I recently installed a new Sony XPlode head unit in my 2001 Suzuki Swift along with 6 1/2" Kenwoods in both the front and rear. Anyway, everything works fine, but the speakers sound really tiny and have close to no bass. The volume nob maxes out at 34 and I have to turn it to 25-26 to even hear a thump. I have the exact same head unit albeit an older model in my Ford Ranger and it's speakers which are Kenwoods as well are not only loud and clean, but have thundering bass to boot. Not to mention that's with the volume nob at just 17-18. Is this normal since the car obviously uses smaller speakers? Also, I don't want to add a sub since room is scarce in my hatchback anyway so what do I need to install to make my new speakers louder? You know, so that turning the volume nob to just 18 or 20 will make it equal the power of my truck’s speakers.
did you do any sound deadening treatment around the speakers and the panels they are mounted to?? I put 2-3 layers on my front doors inside and outside and gained quite a bit of midbass and bass. Also don't expect much bass from 6.5 inch speakers as they are not made to create loud bass....more highs
