Well my car stereo has been stolen before, and I was thinking about getting a viper 791xv. I've seen most of them online going for $178 plus shipping. Is this a good alarm? Do you guys think it's worth it? Would you recommend a cheaper viper alarm?

The local shops said if I brought the alarm to them they'd install it for $200 plus parts for the remote starter. They also said if I didn't want them to install the remote starter it would cost $100- $150. I live in Florida, so is there any reason to get the remote starter? Is there any advantage to the remote starter regarding theft?

How good is the range on the viper 791xv?

It seems like all the "features" on websites are too vague...

Does it have sensors for the windows? trunk?

NE florida...I never use A/C anyway...in fact it's broken right now.

The guy said he'd sell and install a viper 5000 with a trunk relay so it goes off if the trunk opens for $400 inluding tax and a lifetime warranty. I think I'm going to take him up on the offer.

400 is a lot of money to just install an alarm.a simple pin switch in the trunk should do just fine.

hell i had cuircut city do my whole alarm/remote start for 375.granted i do have to go back for some remote start probs.and that included buying it too.

screw that, spend the money on a 38 special or a 357...........

buy yourself a box of rounds, leave a few stray bullets sitting on the dash, and on the center console.........I always leave extra rounds of 12 ga. slugs on the seat and dash........along with an NRA sticker real big on the window, i never have locked the doors either, aint never been broken into either.

and as for that... my car got jacked in the school parking lot while I was in class. A gun isn't going to help me when I'm not there. Plus I'm not even old enough to buy a gun yet.

Shop around, I'm not sure about prices in Florida, $400 might be the going rate there. Around here, $400 will get you a basic alarm including trunk and paging capabilities. Yes it will page you up to a 1/4 mile away.

Shop around, and look into the reputation of the shop.

I've delt with this shop a few times and I talked to someone who had the exact same alarm put in for the same price by them and he said it's been working for 1 year with no problems at all.

on a side note, remote starters are nice for any car that way you can warm it up before you drive it. When i say warm it up i mean the engine by the way. Just hoping in a car starting it up and going is much harder on vehicles than if you let it idle a bit to warm everything up before you get going. Just a reason for remote start in my opinion. My last dsm no only had remote start but also remote turn off so it would idle 30 seconds or so after i left the car before it shut down as to let the turbo cool off a bit because once you turn it off the oil and coolant to the turbo is also turned off... combine that with a turbo thats still spinning at a very high rate of speed from the drive and it leads to premature turbo failure. But anyways!!!! im rambling..

Well my luck changed for the better for once...

They didn't have the viper 5000 in stock like they had promised, so they said they'd install a viper 5900 with the trunk coverage, lifetime warranty, with installation and tax for $428 out the door.
