I've been looking for head units recently that have a USB port so that I might plug in a thumbdrive with music. I've seen a few different stereos, such as the Alpine CDA-105, that indicate there is a USB port on the rear of the unit. How does this work exactly? Would I have to have the faceplate off to use the thumbdrive? Does the port get installed somewhere else in the car? Please explain.
The ports are on the back for some units, front and back on others, and just front on some. If the port is on the back, you would need to run a USB extension cable from the back of the unit to where ever you would want it when the head unit was installed.
