I was wondering, what the advantages/disadvantages of having your subs facing into your enclosure, with the motor exposed. The only good thing that I could think of was to show off the motor/basket, but only if it was like chrome. It just seems that having the subs like that would actually lessen their performance.....
Like Mine? I do it because the ass end of a Brahma is sexy. Any advantage? Nah, It just makes the interior of your box a bit bigger. Any disadvantage? Nah, subbass is omni-directional so the motor hanging out there has no affect.
You do have to switch the wiring around so the sub will move in the correct direction. - becomes + and + becomes - BTW Sandt you got an allen wrench hanging on for dear life to the magnet.
Not always. In some instances you want to reverse polarity and in others you do not. It is really something you need to play with. Sometimes phase issues will occur even in a standard mounted driver in a sealed box. In my car I had to reverse my sub's polarity in my standard mount sealed enclosure, and I have my ported driver wired normally. Otherwise I have phase cancellation from 50-70 Hz or so... it is like a big old void where everything gets quiet and the air stops moving.
Poor guy, huh? It is one of 2 on the driver motor. The shiny one is for the posts and the black one is for the allen head screws I use to mount the driver.
Really cool physics explanations of why what Seth is saying is true. http://www.kettering.edu/~drussell/Demos/B...fledPiston.html
ok, well, I was just wondering. Lately around here it seems like I have been seeing more and more installs doing that instead of what I would call the "traditional way," so I was just wondering if there was a performance purpose.
Hi Seth, I've been here and there just not actively replying as much. Still readin' though. I've got two complete audio projects underway and actually doing this stuff takes time away from surfing. You know all about that. Trying to get better at my html too so I can actually show what I'm doing since I'm not a huge fan of SD. That and applying to seminary and planning a move to KY and doing 3 other peoples installs and treating the girl well... yeah ... I guess I've been pretty busy ...
