I have two days to build this system. I can pull it off. The door speakers are first, I need a little dynomat. I don't like bolting any speaker directly to a metal door I didnt sell the equipment, I personally would have picked the Polk Audio over Infinity any day of the week. Infinity are well built speakers but the crossovers suck Notice the tweeters are pointed away from the driver I like to put the crossovers wher I can find them for easy problem diagnosis if I should have a problem. I dont have to remove the door panel to access the wires More to come in a minute
Next the wiring. All of it. Because once the box is in place running anything can be difficult. The door speakers will be amped and of course the one subwoofer, so speaker wires, RCA's and everything else is run Next I trial fit And finally I build the box and amp rack I almost always do the baffle board last. Now I trial fit again. Everything is checked and double checked, final assembly needs to go smooth So far everything is going according to plan, except the woofer isnt here yet. The radio is wired up, not yet installed. I'm waiting on one other part, a USB to Ipod cable. The alarm is also ready.
Ranger...Next summer I may get a internship in Dallas/Forth Worth at Lockheed Martin. Where in TX are you at???
OK I cannot stress the importance of running all the wires right at the start. Nothing is worse than having to take it apart again because you need to add something RCAs, Plug even the USB cable is at the back of the radio. The alarm also got finished up this morning. Biggest mistake people make is that they try to install it one wire at a time. Here is what I mean, locate EVERY wire you need before you take the alarm out of the box. Plan the routing of every wire before the actual install begins The woofer came in today so I cut the baffle board More to come
let us know how that shallow mount sub sounds, i've heard they're not that great but i've had yet to hear them.
They actually sound really good, even ported in a really small enclosure. Never tried one sealed yet. Almost forgot the port, actually it was gonna be a sealed box, but according to Pioneers specs it would work with a port as small as 3-inch I have to see it to believe it, but there it is, a three inch port. Its finally together and covered And its getting put into the truck And all of this and I still had other things to do. Oh No, this was not my only project. How about a factory cruise control switch hooked to an aftermarket cruise. This truck had no cruise control, so I switched out the factory handle with one that had the cruise buttons on it and installed the Rostra Cruise Control. Now I cannot take credit for this one, some guy named Michael at M&R Electronics figured this one out. I like smart people That white plug in the back will actually plug into an aftermarket cruise and it worked. What a day
Similar. Good eye. By having a plug we can easily diagnose any weird problems should we have any. Most of the time we don't. Projects like the cruise controls are very well thought out in advance. The one thing I don't do is magnets on the drive shaft, all modern cars have a speed sensor and that what we tie into. The truck was picked up and it did sound really good. The Polks in the door would have done a better job but over all I was happy with it. Everything worked first time. The radio was a Pioneer DEHP 6900UB
Nice job Ranger! The 3 inch vent should work fine, I used small vents in those truck boxes all the time. Usually had good results , occasionally it didnt and changes had to be made.
The only thing I was concerned about was port noise with such a small vent. I was actually amazed that I heard none. I am not gonna change my minimum port size for a 12-inch speaker (4-inch port) but this speaker is definately a special case. I need to look into it a little more.
