I'm thinking of getting a set of components for my KIA Sportgae and would like to know the best place to mount the tweeters. It came form the factory with tweeters on top of the dash by the a pillars but that seemed kind of far away to me. They are not hooked up as I have a set of full range speakers in the doors that are amped. I realize differnt vehicles might require different tweeter placement but I'd like to have an idea on where I should mount them.
Actually, I would think that is a really good location. Thats really got to help your sound stage alot.
Alrighty then. I will find me some components and put the tweetes in the factory location. Saves having to drill holes somewhere too. If they don't sound good there I can always move them.
In a perfect world, the tweeter should be close to the midbass driver. But most manufacturers put the front speakers in the door, worse yet low in the door. So if we can place the tweeter up higher, our sound also moves up. If you can, find a tweeter with an 18dB per octave crossover and it needs to be crossed around 4500 to 5000Hz. If an 18dB per octave can not be found an "industry standard" 12dB per octave will work but the crossover point should be the same. Even my Polk Audio DX3000 tweeter crossovers were replaced with my own crossover. The bottom one is the Polk 12dB per octave @ 6000Hz The top was built by me, 18dB per Octave crossed over at 5000Hz Finally, a couple of others here will disagree with me, but I always recommend a full range speaker and an add on tweeter. Thats the way I do it in my truck, my wifes car and my sons car.
Yea the speakers are as low in the door as you can go. Any lower and they's damn near be on the ground. On my '97 Cougar they are almost dead center in the door and are just above my knees. I just put some JBL P662 (6-1/2 two way 75rms @ 2ohms) I scored off ebay for a real good price in it. Man they sound great. I had some Kenwood's in it which sounded good but not like the JBL's. I'm going to put the Kenwood's in front doors of the wife's car 2002 Chevy Tracker. Then when I get a set of components the Pioneers that are in my KIA will go in the rear doors of her Tracker.
