    Could someone tell me how to go about Calculating a tube port's demensions to a slot vent in Demensions To make a slot vent's Tunning the same as the tube port's tunning? I did know how but i forgot for some reason.

    .7854*d*d=area 4" port would be .7854 x 4 x 4=12.57"

    as long as the port area is the same between a slot vent and a round vent the lengths will be the same

    Just to be sure??
    If i have a 3 inch round X 7.8 long tube..
    It would transfer to around 3X18.40 inches for a slot?
    Also are you saying if its in the same size box and Hz The tube vent..
    Will be the same Dimensions as the slot vent?
    I thought dimensions and Certain Hz of a tube Vs. Slot Was different
    Im a little confused.
    Also what is better? Tube Or Slot?

    a round port and slot port both do the exact same thing

    two ports with the same area...one a round port and a one a slot port...the round port would outperform the slot port

    a 3 inch diameter port would be equivalent to a square slot port 2.7 inches by 2.7 inches

    where did you get that 3x18.40 number???? that would be 55.2 sq inches of port compared to a 3 inch diameter port with about 7 sq inches of port...way off

    Ummm... i dont know ...Some dude a while back on another site
    Gave me this simple formula on how to turn a Plan for a tube into a slot.
    Like if your building from your Operation book for the sub and it only has a tube plan and you wanted a slot at the same Hz there was a formula to change it up It was real simple to do so It was some type of sq inch crap and i forgot how to do it Maybe ive just inhaled to much Poly-u today or to many years car paint lol.

    How do you get a 2.7x2.7 from a 3x7 tube i guess thats what i need to know how do you figure that one out...im getting scared now:)

    2.7 x2.7 square has the same area of a 3" round circle...the legnth will be the same. what is the size of the box?

    Ok how do you get 2.7x2.7 from 3' round how can i come up with that number? Lets say its a 4" round 7" long tube how would you come up with the dimensions of a slot for that What'd ya do to get that figure or area?
    and you say that if its 7 inches long(tube) the length will be the same for tube and slot? Also will you not get no port noise with a slot like you will some tubes? what makes a tube be better then a slot.. And what do you mean by .7854*d*d=area can you kinda spell it out for me sorta say?
    the box is 1.2 cubes per side Its already built with 3x7.8 tubes.
    I was just wanting to know how to convert tubes to slots if your looking at the manual and building from it and it only shows tubes and not vents..So if i wanted to try a slot in another box i could take the dimension from the manual for the tube and change it to slot but get the same Hz that the tube would have..Pretty much i just dont know or understand how to change a tube's area to a slot's area when you only have a plan for tubes ?
    I think im think im going crazy...

    first 3' means three FEET

    well basically use simple algebra.

    both a round port and slot port will have the same tuning given they both have the same port area and port length.

    area of a circle is

    A = pi X r^2

    area of rectangle is

    A = l X w

    to convert from round ports to slot ports first find the area of a round port

    for pi we will use 3.14 as it is rounded

    ex: 4 inch diameter port

    A = 3.14x2x2

    A = 12.56 sq in

    So using A = length x width for a rectangle (durr)

    A = and two numbers you want that equal 12.56 sq in

    Easy way....find how tall you want your slot to be...say 5 inches.

    12.56 = 5x

    solve for x, x is your width of the port

    12.56/5 = 2.512 in

    so a 5 in x 2.512 in slot port will have the same port area as a 4 inch diameter port...you can make the dimensions of the slot port whatever size you want...but just make sure it isn't long and narrow like say a 12.56 inch tall port by 1 inch wide

    Hey AZN you scare me, can we simplify this a little bit

    Please

    mrmizcue has the right idea but I think we can take his idea and make it easier to use (we are not all math majors).

    What if we call the diameter of the round port the width of the port, then we get

    0.7854*width*width = width*height (then divide both sides by width)

    0.7854*width = height (now we have something easy to use)

    So if we have a 4-inch round port and we want square, our width will be 4 and our height will be 3.14-inches.

    Don't like those dimensions, no problem. If we double 3.14 we get 6.25 (I'm rounding off) just remember to do half the other dimension to 2-inches.

    In other words, if you wanna adjust the dimensions its easy, multiply one side by some number "n" and divide the other side by that same number.

    n*(0.7854*width) = height/n

    (AZN you dont need to tell me that multiplication is associative and I don't need the parenthesis on the left hand side, I already know)

    I wonder if this can be simplified even more??

    lol...well i was just typing what was going through my head haha

    Yes ranger i'm sure you can simplify it even more...I'm still in math211 !!!!! lol

    I'm working on it though

    Do you all wear coke bottle math nerd glasses?

    Its much more simple i just cant remember ...
    Yea the early 90's was really good to me and maybe i did smoke way to much grass and **** then so my minds probably kinda shot lol.

    But man i was getting tail and having fun wasnt stuck in math class going to the huge math debate with my realy nice math jacket on drinking my milk for my bones and Throwing the leather ball around on the high school field
    Mr.Tough driving the new car or jacked up 4x4 momy bought me.

    Your all being a bunch of Little D*cks sorry man but you dudes really give the car audio world a bad name

    I bet your all about 19 or 20ish say hello to mom for me :)
    Eat your frostedflakes

    All in fun...

    we were just trying to help. that is all. you asked a question and we answered. the answer i gave was the simplest that i know of. I am 37 and a mechanical engineer and I too had a GREAT time in '88-'92...collage years. drinking and drugs kill brain cell's...but only the weak one's....only the strong survive!!!!!!

    I'm 48, so your only off by 28 years. I know that your kidding around, but sound is physics. Relationships in physics can be explained mathematically.

    Car audio is no different, mathematical relationships between enclosure, driver and vehicle do exist. When we open our eyes and see them, we can go far.

    AZN is a great example, he has seen the relationships and has developed his own methodology. The point is that he has seen the mathematical relationships and he understands their importance.

    Math is power (and I hated math when I was in High School)

    LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
