for stoplight to stoplight racing. is major low end torque better or would torque a little higher in the RPM range be better?

The 454 is coming along nicely. Only drawback i've encountered is my compression ratio. I was shooting for 9.5:1 so I could run a Performer RPM cam but I ended up with 9:1 so I think i'm going to drop to a Performer. Still running Performer RPM intake With performer 750cfm carb.
According to desktop dyno...this should yeild some major low end torque.

Another question. How much does it usually cost to have a set of heads ported.

Low end is key in racing light to light. Controll becomes a factor as well. Also important is determining what redline will be. I suggest you go with both cam and intake the same. The "performer" is not my favorite manifold, I suggest a "torquer". However, if you like the performer, get both performer, or performer RPM, as they are designed to work together best.

I love cars with lots of low endtorque. It just makes you feel more of a man driving one.
I also realized that the exact same car in manual feels a lot more torquey than an automatic.

Went to the speed shop today with my cylinder heads to check on price of having them ported. $350 for a full port job. But the problem lies in the fact that I have a set of peanut port heads. The shop owner (who is known for being a great guy willing to help out) takes me into the back and shows me a set of 427 corvette large oval port heads. THOSE PORTS ARE MASSIVE. He says he'll sell me the bare heads for $300. Plus since my peanut port heads were just completely rebuilt before i bought the motor and everything on the heads are new...springs, valves, ect. He'll charge me $150 to swap over everything from my peanuts to the ovals. Plus $50 if i want to put new bronze valve guides in the 427's.

I'm only aiming for low to mid 13's.
Should I spend the $350 on porting the peanuts
Or should i stop being so stingy and get the HUGE oval ports for a total of $500

Does that sound like a good deal.
The guy told me even porting the peanuts...they still wont flow as good as the 427's
Claims the 427's would be an easy 50-60hp leap....AT LEAST

    Whats the word guys?

More flow. The square ports can be beasts.
