    what's the best subwoofer?

no, just kidding! I think I fried my tempests. couldn't have come at a worse time. (see I'm moving, and I have about 7grand saved up) - and it's killing me to NOT be buying new subs right now.
I like it better when I know what I want, and have the time to save up the money and hunt for the best deal.
now, I have plenty o cash at my disposal (although it already has an intended use) - I don't really want to be a bad boy yet.
I'm trying to decide whether to get some cheapies to torture for a couple of months (moving from in. to fla. in sept.)
or just deal with my crispy critters and look toward the future.
I am thinking about using my same box, and dropping in 2 15" tumults once I hit florida and find out how much money I have left over. I'll be pushing them with 2 jbl 1201.1's (hopefully, anyway, I might have to get some new amps)
It's in my daily driver, but it's an extended cab with the rear seats removed, so I'm pretty flexible and thinking about changing my box, maybe one 18" in a banpass (or maybe even 2!) I thought about getting two of the new 15" strokers (oh, how they make me drool), but, damn - they need a pile of power! and what about the soundstream xxx's?

I wanna stay away from having to get ten amps.

so, I'm not really concerned with sq or spl, really. I get my thrills with xmax. I like that deep, low, meat tenderizing bass. so open this up, let me have your thoughts.. I need:

xmax (first and foremost)- that's why I like the tumults 3" excursion)
efficiency (something that will perform well with 2000 watts total)
originality - I really wanna stay away from jls, kickers, etc..

and should I get some cheapies for the time being just to have fun?

Have you seen the stereo integrity magnums . Fit your needs pretty well. A little pricey but worth the money. Nick has great customer service as well . One mag 15" with 2000w would be insane

Also the rlp's from soundsplinter would fit your bill for a little less money. Might want to check out mikes offerings . He has great customer service as well www.soundsplinter.com :)

Thanks for the reply, ramos..and WHOA!.. those rlp's do look like some meat thumping subs..

how do these compare to the tumults, or titanics, for that matter?

and looks like the mags only need 3 cu ft or so, I'm looking for a monster install, and like a box that can't be stolen by one person alone!

I REALLY like the tumults, for efficiency and excursion, and at 450 each, they don't seem like a bad deal. is there anything out there that just puts the adire's to shame?

oh, yeah - - and what about getting some cheapies to terrorize in the meantime?

oh, and BTW.. the tempests are still fine, play great and sound good, and still get loud, I just can hear them slapping a little bit at high power. (no doubt due to two years of over-excursion in a way too big ported box<19cuft-9.5per ea.>, that's tuned way too low<18hz> I don't even think that is anywhere near the resonant freq of these subs...)

so, no.. I can't say anything bad about adire subs.. This failure, I deserve, and they still sound wonderful for blown subs..

I have seen the new 3.5" excursion eclipse pro titaniums, but they weigh in at about twice the price of the tumults.

ooh, ooh... what about putting 2 18's in a giant bandpass box? with some plexiglass and mirrors, and neons, and maybe some goldfish?

I'd love to see what a solo X would do in a bandpass, but that's another power monger

The x's don't do too well in bandpass, tl , or horns . They seem to really shine in large ported enclosures with lotsa powah :)

I saw a pallet load of solo x's on ebay (yeah, I know!) and wondered if anyone had a cargo van and an electrical substation lying around to play with..
