I was talking to a friend that has a nice system. amps are all old school PPI art series (forgot the models though) 2 extra batts, 2 15" CVR's and he active front stage is just awesome... using 10" focal midbass with some 6.5' focal K2P's with peerless tweets.. Anyway, we got to talking and since he knows that i like outside listening he suggested that i go active or may but 2 8's in the front doors with 2 sets of 6.5' components. with possibly only on set of tweets or even two if needed... I got to thinking and azn and pedro i need your advice for this cuz i want to go straight elemental with this... what could i use from eD for 8' midbass? what amp should i power it with? I was also thinking of putting in 2 sets of eD e9.65i's. I was hoping to pull the whole thing off with maybe my current nine.4 and then get a nine.2 or a nine.2x and for my subs of course my nine.1. what do you think? i need some suggestions here. I know i'll prolly need an extra battery or two. still not sure and i have thought that far into yet. just came to me last night at about 11pm... Suggestions?
i asked about using my 8's for mid bass once on the ed site and was told it may or may not sound good since the subs may not play high enough to blend with the mids leaving a gap in freq's. but i ran into a friend at a comp and he turned me on to these. they go looow for mid bass's and sound really good too. mpyre pronounced empire. http://www.floridaspl.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5952
I have been kicking around putting two of my ED 8's in an enclosure up front to act as a midbass....I am waiting on delivery of a set of Polk MM separates with 6.5" mids and tweets...In my last car where I had a nice install (long time ago) I had old school Kenwood HU, Kenwood separate 5.25" midbass in the factory door location and the tweets in the air vent on either end of the dash. I built a console in front middle of the front seat and had 2 Lanzar 6.5 midbass drivers...I wasn't active, but I got some 3 way passive crossovers to run all those...I had JBL 6x9 in the rear deck and an old school Kenwood (723) amp running front and rear paralleled...I had to two old school Kicker comp 12's in a box in the trunk running off of a bridged Kenwood 823...False floor in the trunk with amps down inside with cooling fans...It was not super super loud, but it was very clean.... I would love to go active but then I would run out of room to put all the amps... Willy
i REALLY want to try straight eD. what if i didn't really go active but i put like 2 or three sets of e9.65i's in. one set in the factory location and two sets towards the bottom of my doors? Do you think i would get some good midbass out of that? Pedro, what mids was he using in the link you provided?
Pedro, what mids was he using in the link you provided? so IF i go with three sets... that's gonna cost over $600 for just the mids and highs. lol Pedro, do you know the sound difference between the e3.65i and the e9.65i's? I'm wondering if my nine.4 would have enough power to handle 2 sets of the components to make them really scream and maybe i could add a nine.2. what do you think? for the power, i think i'll need just one extra battery?
the mids are called MPYRE. its a 6.5 inch. they had some on ebay for 109.00 buy it now but it looks like they only had one set for sale.
hmmm, never heard of them.. they do sound good though... I just need some killer midbass for outside listening so the components have to very loud and very clear... I'll worry about imaging once their installed. I'm in no rush cuz i don't have money right now but i'm starting to save. Looks like if i go this route i'm going to have to do some fiberglassing in the front doors..
http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=299-277 go down to 38HZ WOW!! and look at that price!!!!!! 2 per door wired to 4 ohms will rock. in a well damped door.
that would work great if i could fit 2 per door. I can only fit one though and it will be a tight fit for just the one...
ok, i've been re thinking this... what if i just went active. 1 tweet, one mid and one midbass... I was looking at the one you recommended pedro and i took it a bit further... you would know more about this than i would... I was looking at a 7" midbass woofer.. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=295-374 i was thinking using a 7" then 6.5 then a tweet. need some help on the 6.5's and tweet.. just curious how brands like tang band, Dayton and HIVi sound? recommendations?
nice find there. all the brands you mentioned are good. either way you go it will work. just try to level match the speakers. you dont want your mid over powering your tweet or visa-versa.
