I installed an amp in my friends car, and found a switchable power source from the stock amp. I tested the connection and it does get power when turning on the key. Although the switchable power seems weak. Doesn't light the tester up really bright like the 12v Power does. I ran a big power wire to the battery 4gage and a 4 gage ground drilled and bolted to the frame. My question is, Will a weak switchable power prevent the amp from turning on and working properly? I will probably have to get a meter to measure it, but I can tell from the light tester that it is weak.
The switched 12 volt wire for the remote turn on does NOT need to be a high current source. All it needs a like .01 amps to turn the amp on
Then I have a different problem then, I am still measure the voltage of the switchable power. what else could be a problem? the amp is not turning on. I will check all the fuses to make sure they are good. If you are sure that the switchable power doesn't need to be very strong, then I can that alone, and look at other options. I have installed this same setup in many different cars, the box and amp are all one piece, I just hook up the power, ground, and remote. and rca's and it works.
5 volt remote wire won't turn on your amp, it is made specifically for ford's factory amp/radio rcu run a new wire from the front
