I'm looing for a 5x7 component set to go updront in a 2006 F150 and coax pair for rear. I know let your ears decide and if that was my choice I would be stuck with Sony, Kenwood, Alpine, RF, your typical Circuit City Best Buy equipment so I am relying on YOUR ears and experience.

I at first was set on JL XR570-Csi and XR570-Cxi, than I said what the heck maybe go with ZR components, but if I'm willing to pay that kind of money I started looking at Focal but looks like they don't have 5x7 speakers. Than there is dyna audio, CDT, etc. I have no way of personally listening to these speakers before I buy them. I am looking for SQ and mainly listen to classic older rock and country.

Honestly, and just curious, without lab and test equipments, is there really a hearing difference between the $50 and $600+, I mean can you hear a difference lets say JL ZR series and TR or Alpine type R or any cheaper speakers?

I will be using either a Zapco R1000.4, JL 300x4, JL 450x4 amp to power these speakers (Still always open for suggestions on the amps also) with a JL 500/1 powering a JL stealth box with a 10w3v2 sub.

Need all expert advice am hoping to have equipment purchased and installed within two weeks.
    Any suggestions

Is there a difference, yes. Is there $550 dollars worth of difference NO. A majority of the population cannot hear the difference, for example, between the Polk Audio Momo's and the Polk Audio SR series. Price difference is around 400-450dollars. I'll take the Momos. Most people buy $600 dollar speakers to impress the neighbors.

Mounting a speaker is everything. The best speaker in the world will sound bad if you just bolt it to the door. If the panel the speaker is attached to is vibrating when the speaker plays, it is absorbing sound that the speaker should be making. While we cannot stop vibration completely we try our best. The more solid the mount the better a speaker will sound. Even a factory speaker can be made to sound great with correct mounting technique.(I am in no way suggesting keeping the factory speaker).

In my opinion the Infinity Reference 6810cs will do a good job and not break the bank (I love Silk Dome Tweeters).

I feel rear speakers are unnecessary. I would use the money for a small amp for whatever front speakers you decide on.

Any way that my 25-cents worth

now I know there is more of you out there. I'm really needing some opinions. I'm tired of searching the internet. I'm confusing my self 5x7 or 6.5" , Dynadio, rainbow, cdt, diamond audio, focal, JL audio, polk, Boston Acoustics, list goes on. Just trying to find best speaker for the money, and whether the Hi- ends ($600) my/our ears can tell the difference between the $100 pair.

    Please help!!

Every brand you just named will sound phenominal. A round speaker is normally going to produce a cleaner midbass, but will have a little less surface area so less bass actually being pushed. Every brand you have names makes a great 6.5 component set w/crossover starting at around $200. Components are deffinately going to produce the cleanest sound. IMO anything more than the $300-400 range and you are no longer shopping for sound quality, but more of what level of volume you can produce that same quality. I would also factor in that as the price increases, so does the wattage. That can open up another series of issues due to the need of a larger amp. Also causing a higher strain on your electrical system and need for yet more upgrades.

Sounds to me like you need to hit the road and get youself into as many car audio shops as possible. Get a good feel for what sounds best to you. Also remember that the sound can and will change based off of the imaging provided by the enviroment the speaker is in. If you are listening to a speaker flush mounted on a wall, via 3/4 in MDF, on axis, with no obstructions, it will sound completely different than in your car at knee level direct bolted to sheet metal. Just try and remeber that when you are listening. Also when listening make sure every speaker is being run off the same amp and songs so that you get a fair comparison. I would also suggest that you bring in your own music that you know well so you can get a feel for where each speaker excels and lacks compared to how you have heard it played in the past.

Also Ranger is right MOUNTING AND PLACEMENT IS EVERYTHING!

IMO I would stick to speakers that fit in your location. A5x7 component set is the best for your application. If you buy a 6.5 in set then the installer will have to build a baffle or they will just use a cheap adapter which in most cases will resonate at certain frequencies. Better to install speakers that fit properly. Check out the MB Quart RCE 268, very good sounding.

I would go with a quality 5 inch componet set. slight mods to the door, some custom baffle plates, and good to go. Will sound far better than ANY 5x7.....

Another thing that you can do to help with the sound quality besides a solid mounting, is to do an old trick, called "poly bagging". Maybe its still done, i dont know.

get some heavy mil plastic. make it kind of bowl shaped and put it behind the woofer. stuff it full of dacron, then mount the speaker. the speaker will seal the bag to the plate. had good results over the years doing this. It also protects the back of the speaker from water/dust...

I love JL's but i just can't justify paying 600 dollars for a set of components. i would go with Infinty kappa's, any size that's in your car, it'll sound great. If your going to amp them, please don't over watt em, they're sensetive. But really, the claritive nature of a silk dome tweeter is soooo soothing. Metal dome are louder, but .. idk, they just don't sound like a real concert. That's my 2 cents. Tell us what you pick!

by the way, i have 2 6x8 and 2 6x9 infinity reference series run off a 240x4 amp. and i've heard the kappa's and they're soo good.
