Hey everyone, I'm looking to add a sub to my car within the next couple months and have been planning out where I will put it. My car is a Honda cr-v, so the spare tire hangs off the back and there is a hole in the floor of the trunk where the spare could go. This is normally covered by a small picnic table that came from the factory, so it would be a matter of taking the picnic table out out and making a plywood table/speaker box to replace it. So far this has seemed like the best place to put a sub in. My problem is that I occasionally go snowboarding throughout winter and it is inevitable that some water will be brought into the car when driving back after a day on the mountain. While it won't be puddles of water, it should still be enough to potentially get onto the speaker cone and cause distortions. What can be done to help prevent damage from small amounts of water? Some people recommend painting the cone, but based on the limited research that I did, it looks like this often results in some distortion as well. Would something as simple as placing a dry towel over the sub be enough to keep it safe for the hour or so drive back home? Is there anything that I am missing that can be done to prevent water damage? If all else fails, I could always end up putting the sub on the wall around one of the wheel wells, which many people do. This option just doesn't seem like it will look as clean as a nice flat floor with a grill in it would.
don't forget about protecting the wood as well. you can paint that... as for the sub, maybe a marine sub can be used. or if you really dont want to worry about water why not get a hatch back floor matt. for the back when you go snow boarding, but the towel should work too.
Alright thanks for the input. Good idea with painting the wood, as I had forgotten about that until you mentioned that.
