Does anyone know if a subwoofer can play both high pitch and low pitch bass notes? Some audio guy at the Kenwood shop in my area said that it's not possible. Well, I know that most subwoofers play very low bass notes, but is it possible to play high pitch bass notes too? I know that some people don't care for high pitch basses but I care about both high and low pitches. In fact I like all forms of basses. I was listening to a song in my friends car. He has 2 12" Kicker subs (the squared ones) and an Alpine 1.1000 Amplifiers. I mean, his car thumped so loud and you can hear the very low bass. It was powerful at very low bass but when it went up to the high pitch basses, it faded out. I mean, you couldn't even hear the high pitch bass notes at all. It was like eliminated out of the song which made it suck, I thought. What I would like is for it play the very low basses and then when the pitches traveled up or changed, it would transition right into it nicely. I'm a music guy, so I get quite picky about how it sounds. I mean, I'm more for the very low and loud basses but if a song has many dynamics to it, and you can only hear some of it, it sounds horrible. It feels and sounds incomplete. So is it possible for a sub to play both high and low pitch basses? Or does it play only one or the other? Thanks.
Subs are mainly ment for the lows, you got the lows, mids, highs. Like subs may be meant to only go from 20 - 250Hz, as for some mids maybe hit 50 - 20,000Hz, and tweets 5000 - 23000Hz. Just because some mono amps might filter out the high notes and keep the subs hitting the lows, and leave the highs for the speakers and tweeters. The box size will matter with that also.
exactly how high pitched? a sub is usually crossed from 80hz on down.anything above that is normally handled by the midbass speaker. you could just cross over the sub alot higher.like 100 hz on down.
How high a sub will play depends on its inductance. The lower the inductance the higher the bandwith. The new SI Mag and the SivaX and TempestX should hit the hits very well due to the super low inductance and super low distortion.. Subs should be crossed 80 or below though...above that is midbass territory...if your friends system can't hit those midbass notes than his system doesn' sound good. Enclosure is a big factor also
