Subs to match my PA amp

So I got a really good deal on a ps1-5500d. I'd like to match two 12"s to it. I'm kind of a noob when it comes to car audio and I'm having trouble figuring out what would be best.

    Vehicle: 1986 Mercedes 300SDL
    Front: 5.25" CDT components
Rear: 6.5" coax (haven't purchased yet)
    HU: Alpine ida-x100,
    Budget: $300 for both subs
Thoughts: Alpine Type R, ED e3 or e5, IDQ v2 (any other suggestions)

I'm going to build a box for it. Since it will be the first box I've ever built, it's going to be a simple sealed job.

I can't figure out whether I should be looking at 4 ohm or 2 ohm drivers. I've read tons on the subject, but I can't find an answer. I think my amp could handle either one, so what would be best? Is lower impedence always better if the amp can handle it?

    Thanks.

well, your amp has tons of power for that low of a budget. in this case, you will prolly want to spend all 300 and get a higher independence. probably 4 ohms all together, it just depends on what subs you get.

i will see what i can find real quick.

Thanks for the info. I'm realizing now that the amp is overpowered for what I'm needing it for. For $150 NIB I couldn't pass it up.

That's an interesting thought about the 15". I hadn't even considered a 15". My uninformed opinion was always that a 15" was a little sloppier than a 12". But I'm not really basing that on anything. So, how would it sound? I'm more interested in SQ than SPL. I never crank up my music.

    4 ed 9kv2's wired for 1700 watts at 4Ω. thats 300 bucks.

i have 3 on 600 watts and its sick how deep they get. keep the gains very low and they will be safe. i like both spl and sq so i guess im SQL.

    About the gains...

I don't really like booming bass. Whatever I get, the amp is probably going to be overkill. Can I worry less about the recommended power on the subs? Can I just shop for the subs that I think will sound good and adjust the gains to regulate the power?
