My son needs a sub and box. The biggest thing I can get in his car is a box 34-inches x 12.5-inches x 16.5-inches deep. For those that are mathematically challenged that is 3.1 cu. ft. internal volume. The port is 6-inches in diameter, 10.5-inched long. Wait, what am I doing? Lets let BassBox tell the story

The box has already been built, I need a sub (2 12-inch) that will work well in it.
The peak for the Planet Speaker is a little higher than I would like to see. But teens would probably like it, loud as hell.

Tuning at 42Hz does not seem to be a problem with an F3 of around 30Hz. The box also maintains control of the woofers down to 28Hz

Any other suggestions and money is an object, with me in college and my son in college, money is tight. Time is not a problem as this will be a Christmas present.

I dont function well waiting till the last minute

I really want to buy one Planet Audio 12 inch sub but I can't find any anywhere...are they a new company Bill??? Seems like you and your shop loves Planet.

It's even hard to find online...or I'm just lazy at trying to find a site

The speakers (Subs) seem to be really tough, they survive everything we throw at them and more. In one of the Hondas (the blue one) the woofers recieved double their RMS rating and not one speaker failure. And this guy hammered those speakers.

But I do not like thier amps. Output is dirty. They are OK for our customers (they just want loud) but for a Sound Q car I would never use them. One of the Planet amps fried a coil on an Infinity crossover. The only way to fry a coil like that is some DC on the audio line. (we were well within the power handling of the crossovers)

Hey Azn, did you ever get your amp?

Yes my amp came in....sad thing is that it isn't much louder than the kenwood amp I was using giving 300 watts rms...My head unit has really weak preouts.

I know this for a fact because I put the same amp that was in my car in my friends car with a head unit with 4 volt preout and the gain wasn't set nearly as high at all.

The amp is very nice though...I opened it up and the layout of the circuit board was very nice and clean...it has separate gain controls for each of the two channels...so does this mean it is a real dual channel/stereo amp...like dual mono drive crap?? Its not much louder cuz I don't wanna crank the gain up so high but I'm waiting to buy the Pioneer Premier DEH-P680MP...I can get it for 200 from my friends "guy" (dealer)

But I took the subs and amp out for now...no trunk space!!! i had to lay everything on top and on the sides of the sub box when I take my friends home after school lol...its fuking huge!!!!

Actually I'm plugging them in as we speak. The thing I dont like about the Planet woofer is the way it peaks. I like to see a smooth round peak, not a point. Actually I plugged in a base model JL, it performed a little better than the Planet in that Box. Local dealer likes me, might give me a price break if I decide to go that route.

Um....I got the MB Quart RAAA2400...Sweet amp...unhooked it though because I am redoing everything in my truck.

And about the Blaupunkt...it is no more as my girlfriends father said I couldn't add a subwoofer because her Sebring has the factory Infinity system...which is pretty nice and loud...I like it...BUT IT COULD ALWAYS BENEFIT FROM A SUBWOOFER...damn...but what the hell

Try the memphis pr 12s they will playperfect in this enclosure and price is nice. They might get alittle boomy at 60 htz but otherwise they should sound great.

Much smoother curve, but it wants a bigger box.

I used Marks box so we could compare. This is important, Because I used a saved box, Box Properties (lower left) are for the originally designed box This is so I can compare Boxes.

The Daytons are not happy in this box F3 is around (looking at graph) 40Hz and but the woofer does not go out of control until around 24 Hz (now thats not bad)

Oh, I forgot to change the name of the woofer but if you check the parameters they should be right

Now if I let BassBox design the box (For One Woofer) it wants 2.5 cu ft tuned at 34 Hz for an Optimum box. When I select Extended Bass it wants 3.4 cu ft tuned at 38 Hz. (Remember this is for one woofer)

This is the Box. I normally do not build boxes this small, but in this case, this is the biggest box that I will be able to put in the trunk of my sons car.

Port and inside of the box are now black, and not one seam, not one seam in the carpet job. I am good:D

lol...so the trick to nice carpeting jobs is to hide the ugly part on the bottom where it is not ever seen??

Listen and learn, you got it.

But Viking is right, if you use the right stuff and know how to put it on, there will be no seams. The trunk liner carpet I used will literally stretch around the box except for the bottom.

What kind of vehicle are you putting that box in??? I got too looking at the response curve for the dayton again.....I actually like the way it looks myself, smooth roll-off...and the transfer function in the car should really extend the low end to a very usable level, without being overwhelming

One additional thing i noticed, the vent is what 6 inches,8?????? It appears to me the vent is well within it's diameters distance to the back of the box..If so, this will throw off your tuning! Needs to be at least half the diameters distance from any surface, preferably more!!! in case you didnt know, but probably do....
