Hi, I'm new to this forum and to the world of higher end car audio. I just recently purchased a 2006 mk5 vw gti. I put an Eclipse AVN5495 in it immediatly and just now put 2 JL 12w6's and a 1000/1. The only problem is that i have NO trunk left. They are more than enough for that small car, so I was wondering if it was possible to get/make a smaller box so i have more storage. If I lose volume thats fine, ill just turn the amp up. Its ALL the way down now as it is. haha. Any help would be GREAT. Thank you so much.
nice set up you can probably make it flatter to give you some more space, as flat as the magnet depth will allow. also having a custom box made would probably be best.
A clamshell isobarik design is one way to go. not my favorite desgn, but it does work. essentially figure out what one speaker needs for a sealed volume, say its 1.5 cubic feet. now, divide that in half, you get .75 cubic feet. buid a box that size. then mount the drivers face to face, one driver basket will be in the box, the other will be on the front of it with the basket exposed. Otherwise, just go with one sub in a vented enclosure, Or maybe just go with smaller drivers, Or maybe get a newer bigger car! LOL!
I wouldnt suggest just cranking the amp up if you build a smaller box...go to the jl site and learn how to set it correctly
Eh yeah. I'm wondering who told this guy to buy all that high end stuff. Cuz. that's like 3 g's worth of audio and video stuff. and. really.. who has that money? I mean who has that and just buys stuff on impact.. oh wait. are you rich and stupid? haha jk, at least you didn't buy 3 g's worth of CRAP! JL and Eclipse are my two ALLTIME fav manufactuers. how do you like the head unit.. i want the same one.. sooooo bad... lol
LOVE the HU. Greatness. Love the JL stuff also, just... I agree with you. Overkill. But I bought it used, so I went with higher than i planned. I originally wanted one 12ws and a 500/1 but a friend of mine was selling this for just a bit more. Lack of self control.....
So, does anyone have any information on how to make an isobarik (sp?) box or is that something you would have to leave to a pro?
Basically..isobaric loading is clamshelling the subs face to face...changing the parameters and sh!t like that and halving the internal box volume required
Ok, well, ive had (maybe) a change in ideas. Please be honest. I just found this on the web of this guy mounting 2 10's in his focus, which is roughly the same size. Looks doable with $100 (right?), alot of patience and a weekend or two. Need advice from someone knowldegable. Thanks again. http://web.njit.edu/~cas1383/proj/focus_trunk/index.htm
iso baric boxes are not used much anymore because the subs today all work well in small enclosures already.and isobaric boxes take lots of power. not a good idea anymore . great idea when 1 10 inch sub needed 3 cu ft sealed
1 10 incher with 3 cubic feet!!!!!!!!! I will assume you meant POINT 3 cubic feet!!!!! LOL!!!! I really dont like Isobarik designs, tthey have never sounded "right:" to me. I think its due to the fact that the coupled subs have a combined mms that is greater and hinders the transient response, especially at the higher sub bass frequencies.....YA, i KNOW THERE IS TWICE THE FORCE THROUGH THE 2 SETS OF VOICE COILS!!!! but the end result in my opinion leads me to believe that the sound is lees than audiophile quality, in critical listening.... man have I wasted some time doing some critical listening all these years!!!!! LOL, could have been drinking beer or chasing women!!!!!!
no if you remember the old kicker subs that were black and gold and the stitching would come apart or the rockfords they all needed huge enclosures. isobaric never did much for mr i did one 8 8w3 jl old 8w3 like 1994 and it sounded ok. but i just did not like it.
