hello, Let me start by saying, I dont know jack about car audio!!!
With that said please forgive the ignorance of my question. I have a 944 cabiolet for thous familiar with the car, would know there is absolutly no space in that car. To make a long story short ... in order to mount any 6 x 9 speakers in the car all I can think of is to mount them in or on the sub woofer box on un opposing side. Is that a major audio foul or is it possible???
If I'm not explaining myself, please ask me for a further explanation.

Useing Sub box for 6 x 9 speakers

Hi folks, thanks for the reply and the correction. No, I do not have 6 x 9 speakers ... yes, I do know how to spell cabriolet. I learned to spell in school, but not how to type ! :) Anyway... I have 4 - 4 x 6 speakers and one 10 inch subwoofer. The 4 x 6 speakers just dont have enough range or power. The bass distortion is horible. the speakers are good ( I think ) they are JBL. The sub is a JL . I just bought a Kicker 200.2 amplifier and planed to run that amp for the sub only and run the 4 speakers on the existing alpine 5 channel amp. Today, I tweaked with the setting on the amp and now believe that Its just the speakers that are the problem. I bought the amp because I was told I might be under powered. So waddaya think folks?

    Thanks Iceman

Well. you lookin for some serious loudness out of this thing?

I have done several cars just as yours, a few hundred wats to the highs and th4 same to a sub always did good....

the speaker locationsare not ideal, but work OK.....

the sub will produce a nie musical bass, but NOT a BOOM BOOM type sound.....

    What year is your car????

Its a 1990. So you dont think cutting the holes in the sub box is a problem.
The pods in the doors and rear wownt allow anything else and Even if they did theres just not enough room.

what EXACTLY are yo looking for in your audio system??? Loudness, Sound Quality, Both????? Why are you wanting to put some BUG 6x9 speakers in a little car like that??? If you dont have the room, dont do it.....Most of those cars I did that were from the smae era of yours were 3- 500 watt systems that performed really good. The highs ae just tht, the highs, you dont need large speakers to reproduce them highs.... as a matter of fact a 6x9 is not even a good speaker to begin with for what you may want....4 quality plates in the sattelite locations, a sub and a few hundred watts of power sound good in that car.....

I believe it was a car like yours that I did a 12 inch sub under the dash on the passengers side in a fibre glass enclosure, (kiss the glove box goodbye) firing down and kicked some serious ass......with 4 sattelites of some brand, I think they were alpines or polks, dont remember...It sounded GREAT^!!!!

so, hat is it you want out of your system????you need to answer that!!!!!!!6+

Um...if you want the highs to be loud and clear your gonna need a high pass crossover...they aren't supposed to reproduce much bass anyways because they are highs and the sub takes care of the lower registers

I would prolly use the Infinity Kappa 4x6 plates. No reason to try to fit 6x9's in there.
