Currently I am running two 12" L7s with a jl 1000/1. I also have a JL g4500 running a pair of 6.5 JL TRs and a pair of 5.25 JL TRs. I am not pleased with the SQL from the subs and the speakers. I am thinking maybe an EQ would come in handy and if so which one should I get and also is my 1000/1 enough for the kickers? I've heard its perfect for the two kickers and ive heard its nowhere near enough. Any suggestions on how to improve my SQL?
What exactly do you not like about the sound of your system, it could just be the xover settings. The L7s can handle way more power esp if they are in a sealed encloseure.
if you don't have any type of EQ, then yes you might want to look into getting one. not sure if you want one up front in the dash; those are limited in "bands" depending on the model itself. i've seen as many as 9 and as low as 3 to 4 for in dash units. some are set frequencies and other are parametric;meaning you can change the freq on the bands then boost or cut the band. then you've got you trunk mounted models. those can have as high as 31 bands of EQ, but be ready to spend hours if not days to get it to sound to your liking. there are also ones the trunk mount and have the option of remote setting from the drivers seat. its up to your wallet which one or brand you want. the more bands to control the better you can tweak your system. what type of enclosure are the subs in? can you go into more detail as to your system settings? crossover settings, gains, and radio sound settings too.
