Well I was driving today and all of a sudden my speakers went dull in sound. They are not blown because I tested another one that was not installed and it was the same exact sound as the other. I think maybe the amp over heated? because when I touched it, it was really hot. Anyways It has been about 30 minutes - an hour since and the sound is still dull. Anyone know waht could have caused this? I have Image Dynamics CTX65CS speakers with a Soundstream rubicon amp.
so you do have power to the amp now? where is the amp installed? is the place where the amp is installed well ventilated? You may want to check your power RCA's and ground wires just to be sure. something may have come loose.
It is installed in the trunk behind the sub woofer. I have an amp on the sub juicing that, and this amp behind it juicing my speakers. The cables are all connected.
I know that they are all connected but are the connections tight? no play? you may want to try to change out your RCA's. there may be a problem with them. an A/B class amp generally runs hot. if the sound comes back to normal once the amps has fully cooled down then the problem may be with your amp.
I will check the RCA cables to see if that is it. I already did in the amp and they are good, maybe in the back of the head unit?
may be there too. just try to switch out the RCA's first.. then, if it still does it and your head unit has 3 sets of pre outs then try to use the rear preouts to see if that will change anything.
I'm not totally sure but we have to troubleshoot and rule things out first in order to know what the problem may be.
I just wanted to post that my tweeters blew, that is what happened. Just so no one wastes their time. Thanks for your help regardless cccullen, I appreciate it!
Yeah I contacted ID and I am getting them replaced. And as far as pushing them hard what happened is I set them up to rap music on my amp, and yesterday I was listening to some metal and I felt them working so hard with a whistle that it was hurting my ears a bit, I guess it was hurting the speaker much more then it was hurting me.
