Stay with me here. I'm mounting a 5.25" speaker on the outside of my door panel. The inside of the door panel is about 1"-1.5" from the door itself. So there is going to be sound bouncing around in between the door panel and the door at high volumes. I'm going to soundproof the door but I also want to surround the speaker behind the door panel with foam so the sound doesn't go anywhere. (originally the stock 4x6 speakers were installed behind the door panels on the doors themselves. I think if I don't put something around the speakers the sound will leak thru the edges in the door/door panels. Sound rational?
I wouldn't use foam . I would use non hardening modeling clay. It will seal the driver , and also isolate the driver from the door eliminating a lot of resonation
