the amp looks like its turned on normal when it happens but it doesnt produce any sound the the gain is a little under half, when it happens i can just turn the head unit off and turn it back on and it works again untill i turn the volume back up

this is how the sub is wired is that 4 ohm because i would like 2ohm (sorry kinda new to this) the amp has 8 gauge power and ground wire with a 60amp fuse (i think) on the power

Are you sure your sub is dual 4 ohm or dual 2 ohm???

take it out and make sure

From that diagram it is wired to a 2 ohm load

dual 2 ohm?if its wired like the digram you have it wired in to a 1ohm load.

thats why its cutting off.its going into protect

There is NO WAY you can wire it to 2 ohms...sorry bud

You can either use one coil which will lower power handling about 20 percent

or wire it to 4 ohms by wiring the coils in series

yeah you can only get a 1ohm or 4ohm load from that sub.

wire a + from one coil to the - of the other coil and hook the other +and- to your amp.that will give you a 4 ohm load.

is it goin to be as loud and have as much power as with a 2 ohm load

the amp will push 400watts into a 4ohm load and 600watts into a 2 ohm load.so you may notice a decrease.

tell us what happens when you rewire it.

difference of 400 watts from 600 watts is not going to be that noticeable...but it WILL be not as loud...just not really noticeably quieter

will the sound quality be any better or will it be worse

prolly not an audible difference that you can hear...maybe a trained ear could be able to tell but who cares

yeah glad to know those amps can take that kind of beating and not blow up
