when the bass hits it sounds like something in my amp is rattling and its causing my subs to distort...i have taken my amp off of my amp rack on my box and put it on the layed down seats to see if it was because of where i mounted it but it still makes that sound...i dont think my subs would distort because of a rattle.

does anyone have an idea of what could be wrong?

    i have a hifonics bxi1205d running 2 1242d type r's wired into 1ohm.

ive listened to the amp more carefully and it sounds like its having trouble driving the subs or something or somethings wrong with one of the internals.

my gain is around 2.2v and i dont have any boost settings on (besides vocal on my head-unit but that shouldnt effect it) my bass equalizer on my amp is at 18db and i also have a remote bass equalizer. my low pass is around 85hz

are you sure your amp is makeing the noise and not the subs themselves?

and your bass eq set at 18db.......too much i think.thats me though.try lowering it and see what happens.

hell maybe one of your subs took a dump.

Um...your gain is set way too high...that noise??? it may be audible clipping or something

Your gain at 1 ohm should NOT be near 3/4ths AND the bass boost on 18db

With this combo I am sure you are majorly clipping your amp

What are the specs of your enclosure??? Size?? ported?? sealed?? tuning??

Upgrade big three?? what size power wire??

1.04 or so cubic ft per sub sealed. no big three and 4 gauge wire

i figured that was it after thinking awhile(but i didnt want it to be)...now i feel dumb but i guess thats just being new to car audio.

    First upgrade your big three...then

Well do you have a digital multimeter or can you borrow one??? Can you burn a cd with a 60Hz test tone??

If you can get a hold of these things...disconnect your speakers from the amp. Set the head unit volume to your maximun listening volume level. Make sure the subwoofer level on the head unit is at max and that all eq is flat.

Set the DMM to AC Voltage and play the 60Hz tone and slowly turn the gain up until you read 31.6 volts. Do not use the bass boost...if so use it sparingly. The gain may be set kinda high if your head unit has a low preout voltage.

What head unit do you have???

Check for damaged speakers.....tensile leads shorting out, voice coil misalignement, damaged spiders, beer cans in the ports, etc....

he said his box is SEALED...so no beer cans in ports...but check if you accidentally dropped a beer can inside the box while installing the woofers

the advent of the sealed box is only due to the fact that the very premise is composed of an air volume not unlike the atmosphere of the plant Vega.

the very consumption of atmosheric gases creates a sub harmonic in the tensile leads. this over comes the freeair resonace of the wofer which in turn allows the electrical Q to become unstable. This in effect allows the cone to react with the air in the box when the subharmonics are lower than AND in resonance with the vapor particles of the atmospheric conditions in the box. With this conditoin , the woofer reacts in a violentif not resonant manner. To subdue the flow of particulate radiation of various catastrophic ausdio emmisions, it is best to touch my chicken, and pray to the audio gods.

hope this helps.......   :p

for now untill i get the big three and the dmm what should i set my gain and bass equalizer on i turned the gain to about halfway and the bass equalizer to about 3/4...

set your gains to where you dont get any distortion. if you have to crank up the boost to get the bass you desire then maybe you need a way bigger amp or a more efficent box with better tuning.or both.

i measured my box just a minute ago and calculate the volume and it was 1.418...WOW...

what do you recommend i put in the box to take up space? some spare mdf? should i just liquidnail it down?

you want to make your box smaller?

I wouldn't make your box smaller....that size is fine each sub.

Hifonics amps are a lil overrated and they are rated at 14.4 volts...so you won't get the power rated...sorry

the new Type R's can handle 1000 watts a piece daily if the signal is clean

alright i wasnt sure about the box becuase they havent bottomed out any but the recomended size is like .75-1.0...

alright thanks for the help guys.

my amp is fine for what im doing...

its a daily driver and i dont go around pounding peoples windows off...
