Well, I ended up going with a sealed box for my Solobaric. The SQ wasn't all there when I put this sub in a ported box plus the ported box was just too damn big. I actually need trunk space. So I spent a day and a half building the box and amp "cover" (for lack of a better word), as well as sanding, priming, painting and clear coating them. They turned out pretty well - they look better in person. The camera flash kind of messes with the way they look. As you can tell, I still have to install my trunk liner. Also, the amps are mounted in an MDF housing and attached to the underside of the rear deck via some metal brackets. But I wanted a "clean" appearance, so I cut a piece of MDF with some access holes to the gains, xovers, etc. Bonus picture of my cat Reggie
I knew someone would see that! I put the box in upside down by accident at first, but there really is not up or down with this box...at least not until I put the sub in. It is right side up now.
And the wires you see will not be visible soon - that's academic at this point. Just need to clean them up after the trunk liner is back in.
My cat Alligator (my 3 year old nephew named him - Alley for short ) wanted me to ask why there was this cat out there trying to be like him?
It's actually common for American Shorthair cats (that's the breed). Often, the cat is deaf in the ear corresponding to the blue eye - in both, if both eyes are blue - but my cat can hear fine out of both ears. B) If he were a show kitty with papers and everything, that would be a good thing... the odd-eye coloration, but no deafness.
Uh, Seth, that is a beautiful bu...um, I like the addition to your sig That much booty and a flat tummy. Delish... texcon, nice job. I love those subs. I still have an 8 incher here that wants me to hurry and finish the ported box I built it (half done...just need to finish the port and I'm good to go). I'm interested to see how these "sealed only" subs actually sound ported. That cat looks like it made that face for the camera...on purpose
You know, I remember seeing your cat in the pictures of that box you finished with a greenish-color stone paint and thought they looked very similar. I named my cat for 2 pretty bad reasons - Reggie used to have faint racing stripes on his head and my roommate at the time owned a Legend coupe that we jokingly called the "Regend" - hence the name Reggie. Plus, Reggie is white and I thought Reggie would be an odd name for a white cat. I am going to hell, I know.
Thanks - I took my sweet time with it, but I am happy with the way it looks. A little different than the typical carpeted box. I built a ported box for my 12" Solo a few weeks back and was not all that happy with the SQ of the sub vs when it was in a sealed box. But man was it efficient. I have a Tantrum 1200.1, so I can overcome the lack of efficiency of these subs. I also was not happy about losing my entire trunk - I still have to haul groceries! But the real reason I didn't keep the ported box was the bass didn't sound as tight as it did in a sealed box. But I am no pro at building ported boxes, so I could have done a poor job and not even known it.
