So Uhhh.... How 'bout This Better Audio 15"?

    Hey guy's
Been poking around here for a while figured its about time I register.
I've been wanting to go to a single 15 inch sub setup for a good long while now, but just havent been able to make up my mind

I've bounced around from the brahma, xxx, magnum and some others
I was pretty sure i finally made my mind up on the 15" mag
but now the better audio 15" is the monkey wrench in my plans.

    Here's what i want:
pure unadaultered sound quality with balls
    don't most of us? :p

I want a reasonable box size ( no bigger than 4 cubes ported)
And i want something that doesnt require ridiculous amounts of power to excel
(I'd like to cap power at about 1kw, less would be better)

and i really want to be different. Granted: the other subs i mentioned are all a long ways from mainstream, but i wanna be even diferenterer...er

Sound like this sub is for me?

was also wondering how far off it is?
is it still in prototype form?
    any eta?
anything else you can give me on would be great.

Yes, yes it does sound like this sub will be for you...
The only question will be... which BEtter Audio 15" do you mean? :D

We're currently working on some arrangements in the back-end, that we've been working on for a long time now... finally are getting close to fruition... we'll see how much longer. ;)
As far as an ETA goes, that's dependant on several things, one of which is our exploration of Venture Capital funding.

We've not publicly released any info on prototypes, outside of our initial rounds... and now the current Brahma looks a lot like the "make improvements to the basic Brahma architecture" design that we were building from originally...

I know you are talking about the XBL^2 based 15 inch "SQL" super-sub...
And with respect to that, we're exploring our options on how far we can take that.
The big bottleneck to excursion currently, is the basket. So, we're exploring options there, to overcome those bottlenecks, and get out past the 30-35mm barrier that currently exists.

Interesting that you mention the 1000w mark...
The familiar XBL^2 subs on the market currently are around 1600w RMS (and higher). We've been prototyping subs with a little more conservative rating... around 1000w was what we are currently looking at even.

But realistically, I shouldn't leak even that info. ;)
We're officially not finalized on our design, hopefully it won't be too much longer until we are... depends on if we can kick this investigation into funding into high gear. Investors don't like to be rushed. :p

Who needs basket? Go the way of the parthenon motor and the baffle they used!

Hopefully you will be ready around the time I have become bored with my HCs SQ :)

I have been waiting for quite awhile now. The Brahma and XXX are so tempting too. Luckily they had that HC sale to cure my new sub fix. But instead of sounding better like I wanted its more than likely just going louder with the HCs.

So it's still a way off hey?
I have a feeling its gonna be worth it
    I think I'm in

    couple questions:

when you talk about "exploring options with the basket"
are you looking at a different basket or modifying the 12 spoke?
or is that classified at this point? :p

Is this going to be a preorder only sub?
I strongly dislike preorders (bad experience) but i realize its often necessary for smaller companies.

This one has a little to do with this situation but is just something i was curious about.
How long typically does it take from the point where a speaker company completely finalizes its design and tells the buildhouse to "go ahead and build em'"
does it take for the buildhouse to crank out the first run?
I realize thats a broad question that probably depends on which buildhouse, the complexity of the speaker and the size of the run etc.
But this stuff really interests me. General idea?

"The information regarding design issues that may or may not make it into production is highly classified at this time."

The thing is, we can build a motor that exceeds what the basket can let us do. Do we want to, right off the bat? Maybe, maybe not. ;)

We aren't going to do preorders, and we've stated that before.
That's one of the (if not 'the') major reasons that we've sought to pursue venture capital funding to back us up. ;)
I think there have been some issues with companies ending up with "eternal preorders" that has left everyone with a bad impression regarding them. :(
We want to have the thing on your doorstep the same week you click "submit". B)

My personal feeling is the way BA is handleing the no preorder and no preset dates to fall short on, are simply amazing examples of what they are doing to maintain world class customer service. I also find it refreshing to think that I don't have to see 4 million posts about "where is my _____ sub that I preordered 4 years ago?".

Another thing to consider is Chris' intelligence and ambition. He knows so much about subwoofers and is exploring so many new ideas both publicly and behind closed doors, I can assure you their product will be top notch and unique. That is the beautty of being a BA dealer... I got insider info :p . He who has the most money gets the supersecret info :bag:

    Is BA using DeStijl?

When you guys get into production you still going to be around geo? Or are you going to be like Ben of ED and slowly drift away only to appear to make quick jokes and defend your product?

You know they all are just waiting to bash your "super sub" right :D

    I agree,
Its not really a question of the wait, or not trusting the company
It's just that feeling that someone has your money and you have nothing to show for it and are not sure when you will, I hate that feeling

and about Chris's intelligence and ambition:
    That's why I'm in!

I started getting into car audio about 2 years ago.
I knew NOTHING. I still have a whoooole lot to learn but I've made a ton of progress. I honestly owe alot of that to geo.
I know we've never even talked personally. But over the past 2 years everything I've learned i got from these forums. and hands down out of all the knowledgeable folks on here, I've learned the most from Chris

He seems to have infinite patience, and a genuine love for helping people get a grasp on this stuff. Never comes off with an "elitist attitude" like some others.

I can always count on learning something when he posts

Hmmm didnt mean to get all mushy there.

But you have my Respect and (completely hetero) admiration :lmfao: Geo

    Hey, baby!
I live on the Canadian border, man!

I can take my board and kitesurf to Canada, man.
Seriously, it's a 15 minute drive for me to the Peace Bridge (southern end of the QEW to Toronto), or 30 minutes for me to get to the Rainbow Bridge at Niagara Falls, Ontario.

I wouldn't leave you out in the cold! :bag:

We are seriously going to work out something to ship to Canada - but I'd definitely do some onesies-and-twosies for forum regulars, a little special treatment, bring them over myself.

Canadians are damn car audio freaks, that's a beautiful thing! I'm not going to isolate them, no way. :D

Hey, I was here first.
And there... and there.. and that other forum... :p

I'm an enthusiast, first and foremost. I have been for a long time, and even though forums can be a little trendy at times, I really think it's the best place to learn about things... because if you say something, and it isn't true, it won't be up for an hour before someone points out that it's wrong.
It's the ultimate proving grounds, you post something, people try to blow holes in it.. if they succeed - yep, you were wrong. :p

I'm excited about making products for guys like this too, for the same reasons, actually. It's one thing to make a sub, and put it in the local shops, for salespeople to "sell", using their own wording.
It's another thing to put a product out there in front of the forum community, where you've got lord knows how many people scrutinizing the damn thing...
That's not a bad thing about the forums, that's what makes them great.

But if we can put products out that succeed in that sort of environment, with that sort of collective scrutiny - that's pretty darn good, I think!

My whole involvement with Better Audio is simply a hobby gone out of control...
So yes, I'll still be here, mark my words. :ss:

    Haha...
Thank you for the very kind words, Dojunk! :D

I should have you in on our conference calls with investors - that would build investor confidence, wouldn't it?

I am sure there are plenty of us willing to call your investors and to ask when they are going to sign on the dotted line so we can hurry up and buy your product. Maybe that would influance them a bit?

And I am glad you will be sticking around. Without you and a few others I think I would have to abandon CAF and only make special appearances like Seth.
