Hi I have just installed complete new car audi system into my car. 2x 100w rms front splits 6 inch, 2x 50w rms back 6 inch, 2 x 12inch subwoofers 100w rms, 1 800w amp to run front and back speakers, 1 200w amp to run subs. New head unit, new speaker cable to all speakers, new 4 gauge postive cable to amps from battery, new 4 gauge earth cables to both amps, 3 x rca cables from head unit to amps. I tested the system on accesories for about 5mins and all speakers worked but i didnt turn them up very loud. I then started the car and about 1min later the drivers side front speaker started smoking so i turned ther car off and the smoke stopped. Question is why did it smoke and is the speaker stuffed now???
Just curious, was the where was the smoke coming from? Where is the speaker mounted? Perhaps the speaker terminal was shorted against the metal door/dash?
If you didn't move the car, change a window position, or anything of a physical nature, I would only conclude that you over-cranked the system and smoked the speaker. You know the old saying, don't you? "Stereo components operate on smoke. If you let out the smoke, they stop working."
