Now I know I read this somewhere.. I just can't remember where. What are the difference between the Silk and Metal dome tweeters. I hear people prefer one over the other sometimes in their post. What is the difference though in sound?

I prefer silk dome...as they aren't as harsh and sound smoother...well to me.

With metal domes at high volume it gets kinda harsh and hurts my ears

i;ve heard the same thing azn just said.i've also had first hand experience.

i've had a system of some sorts in my vehicles over the last 19 years.and silk domes have a smoother sound over all the others i've had.

I agree with the silk dome = softer thing. weird thing.. is that everyone thinks metal dome are better. I think they're louder though

    All tweeters sounds like crap.

I tend to prefer a polymide or soft dome fabric, usually.......... I have heard several "metal" domes that have performed very accuratly also.

The material a speaker is made of does effect the sound to an exrtent, whether it is through resonance, cone/diaphram breakup, localized phasing issues, or many other things that only rocket scientists can figure out. But the bottom line is a speaker nees to move air, thats all, nothing more, nothing less, the more efficiently and "invisibly" it moves this air, the more accurate it is. Tweeters need to be VERY lightwieght, and must have very rigid structure. (in the convential means anyway)........

As always, listen first , then judge.
