Just got a hifonics bx1000d for my 12" alpine type-r in a sealed box. Any idea what the settings should be at? It has a Subsonic Filter, Lowpass Filter, Bass Boost, Voltage, Phase 0-180.

    Turn the subsonic filter ON
    Set the X-over to 80Hz
Bass boost set at 0dB of gain
Leave the phasing at 0 degrees
Input sensitivity set to minimum, turn on radio, play music at about 3/4 up on the volume, trun the gain up till the amp just starts to distort or the subs start to "puke" out..............
listen to some good familiar music, hows it sound?
The two controls i would play with are the phase and Lowp[as filter. Phasing will effect your midbass performance, as will the x-over point, basically adjust the thing to where it sounds best. I don't reccomend turning up the bass boost, thats a great way to launch subs or toast an amp, (to this day i dont understand why amp manufactures put those damned bass boost circuits in them! An amp is supposed to ONLY amplify what is fed into it, Nothing more!!!!!!!!!!)

The type-r is in a sealed box so shouldn't I turn the subsonic filter down all the way? I thought that subsonic was mainly for ported boxes?

If it sub is in a sealed box than just turn the subsonic filter off...Then do the rest like Vike said.

Hooked up the bx1000d and the bass does not hit that hard. the settings on the amp are : Lowpass about 80; Subsonic at 0; Bass Boost at 0; Phase at 0; Gain(Voltage) little over halfway-about 4 volts. This is in my '97 Grand Cherokee and the sub is in a small sealed box sitting over the right wheelwell firing towards the other wheelwell(side firing). Any ideas on settings or sub placement that would make the bass hit harder and tighter???

What is the volume of the box? A small change in volume can make a big difference.

The sealed box is about 1.0 cubes.

Well just try facing the sub in different positions. I have 2 type r 12's and i have my lowpass around 90-100...sounds great.

That box should be fine for the sub but the smaller the box the lower the effiency...Try a bigger box if you want.

You say your lowpass is about 90-100 is that halfway on the bx1000d?? The lowpass dial at minimum is 35 hz and maximum is 250 hz.

If you want it tighter go with a slightly smaller box. The manual says .78 is optimum. Acceptable range is .7-1.0. Be careful because larger volume can damage the sub.

Nah its on a ****ty profile amp (yes i know it sucks but is temporary).

But my preference of lowpass is around 90 - 100. Others may say different.

But it sounds great right now at that setting.

I might try building a ported box as I hear type-r's do better ported vs. sealed. I have never built a ported box , Any ideas where I can find some plans to build such a box??
