What is the real deal? Ihave tow ED's 9KV2 in a ported enclosure and I want to upgrade to one Boston Pro 12.5 in a sealed box @ 1.25 CuFt, which will sound better are give me some great bass. I gotta tell you the 9KV2's hit hard driver by a JL 500/1!
well it depends, guys who want a deep bass will take a ported and for a nice sound quality, guys will use sealed
Boston sub. I was told the boston will not work in a ported, as per there website, there are no parameters for ported enclosures. I think the Boston pro is an awesome sub and I would like to use it. What do I do?
If boston does not reccomend a vented enclosure, then just stick with a sealed box...pretty simple really.... IF you want to get daring, a vented box could surely be designed for it. But the drivers parameters may or may not like that kind of box.....another option is a single reflex bandpass, though it may or may not like that design either. helll, just stick with a sealed and like it, or stick with what you have and like that!
Here is a quick test for porting and all you need is a calculator. fs/ Qes = EBP Look a the woofer specs, Take the Resonance Frequency (fs) divided by Driver Electrical Q (Qes) If the number is less tha 50 Sealed Between 50 and 100 sealed or ported Over 100 ported only This is an accurate test for enclosure type. Programs like WinISD and BassBox Pro use similar tests.
May not be any louder... depends on your current ported box. What vehicle are you in, and what are you looking for out of your next setup?
Lookkng for good sound...... That is an isuue...MOST folks DONT know what too look for in a SQ system, alot of folks think that more bass is better. When in fact, a simple 8 incher in a well designed box will do what is required for a quality audio sytem...... People think bout this.....WHAT DO YOU REALLY WANT???????? I couldnt give a rats ass if your subs can shake the china off the shelves 2 blocks over...I dont give a flyin kunt if your subs have an xmax of 40 inches.... The bottom line is the SOUND......I suggest all you folks NOT knowing what a QUALITY sound is.....go to a HIGH END home audio store...and listen to the best speakers they have, and sveral of them........... FIND OUT WHART YOU WANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Viking, what's happening. How's the new job? I'm designing a ported box for an adire audio brahma 15" subwoofer, i have it tuned to 39hz, i like bass but want it to sound good with rock too. Is 39hz a bit low for this? i want more quality than bass.
You guys are all correct, I do not even know if I will achieve anything better, everyone is sayin get rid of the two ED 8"'s and get a signle 12". I think the ED's souns sick in my ported enclosure 1.25 CuFt tunes to 35 HRZ. It shales the car and sounds really tight an nice. I have has several people that could not beleive that all I had was two 8''s, but is bigger equate to more? I was looking at a Dayton Titanic MK II, Boston Pro 12.5 and two 11Kv2's (10") as upgrades. If my two ED 8"'s sound great, I can only imagione what two 10"'s would souns like. I just want to make the right choice, thats all!
how about a Boston Acoustics G5 sub and add a G5 passive radiator to it.. more bass without the need for more power or box size.
yeah.. a G5 12" series sub in a 1.0 cube sealed plus one of their GTR TunableRadiators would be a great set up. Something I personally am considering in the future. Or you could do a pair of the 10" G5's because they only need 0.5 cubes each. Add a 10" radiator or a pair of radiators and it would be crazy. 2 10" subs with 2 10" passive radiators.. yeah kick ass.
Everything is going GREAT at the new job! I love it!!! But this is really off topic so........ Well........39 Hz aint too low.....it would do fine......but how would the speaker interact with type of tuning? that is the question!
Rock doesnt mean tune high, rock means design around being able to play higher frequencies well - VERY big difference and VERY common mistake. If you tune high, you will have nothing for a low end... if you design around being able to play a high note in *addition* to everything else... well, you have everything
