thinking of building a sealed box for a 12" alpine type r, just to see how it sounds i have a ported box now and would it be a waste to build a sealed? heard that the sub doesnt do good in a sealed.
Sealed boxes have a very smooth roll off and excellent transient response. They are definately a good Sound Quality box when size correctly. I'm not saying that a ported enclosure is not a good sounding box, but they do tend to play louder. Not a waste of time, you will learn (and hear) the differences between the two types.
go for it, it couldnt hurt. the only thing that could happen is you hate the box and just stick with your ported lol
well the type r does sound like crap in a sealed just finished one today, but the next problem i have is going back to my ported or building a new ported becasue i thought my sub was starting to go as i posted in the sub thread, and i ran my sub in the newly made sealed for a good 30 mins and had the gain up about 60% the db boost at 3 and on the hu i was playing with some eq's and boost and no smell at all, and the ported box i made was 2 cubes at 35 if i remember correctly which ive asked around about and people have said that is good for a R
