A while ago I had a post of screeching scratching sound. I think Viking said to check the RCAS which I did and found the rcas were kinked against a steel brace behind the dash. I put some very small L adapters and some new RCAS. I also redid all the wiring in the system. It still pops. But its on all the speakers but when I unplug the rca from the sub amp it stops. Why would the sub amp make the front and rear speakers pop? I know the problem is not the rcas. I also switched out the sub. No change. When the HU is out I can wiggle the rcas and it does not make a sound. Should I change out the sub amp? This system has been in the car for around 3 years and never had a problem until recently. Any ideas????
Hell I dunno...try making a new 14-12 gauge ground for the head unit...thats all i can think of...lol sorry man
Are you using any type of passive x-overs? Also, when exactly does it "pop". extreme volumes, anytime, only under certain conditions? Be specific...... And what kind of amps and how close are they to one another?
No external xovers, only using the ones on the amps. It happens when driving esp when going over bumps. Happens at all volumes and all sources, Radio, CD and XM. I have a 4 channel Eclipse mounted on a 1 inch mdf board which is mounted behind the rear seat. The sub amp is MTX and is mounted on the oppisite side of the board which is open to the trunk. The sub is 1 12 inch Boston pro at 4 ohms. The MTX is running bridged. Obviously it seems like something is loose but I have gone over every wire in the system twice and is all good. Also took it to 2 local stereo shops and they could not find anything wrong either. Im assuming its a bad component, sub amp or head unit. But dont find the connection between the main spekers and the sub amp, unless its in the HU. thought id toss it by you guys once again before I start changing equipment.
The only thing I can think of right now is too UN mount the amps from their postion. and test fire it while going down the road. Could be something shorting out internally in the amp. Another rhing you can do, and you probably wont like it, but with the car running at idle, go to each component, HU, AMP, Speaker, Wire run Etc...... and pound the **** out of it with your fist, of course not hard enough to break them, but it might give you lead on what is wrong and isolate the situation.. I have found several problems over the years using this technique, of course never with the customer around!
I think I found the prob. I took the rear channel rcas from the eclipse and ran those to the sub amp. Different rcas and diff jacks from the HU and still popped. Obviously the amp is bad. Ill swap it out soon.
