    Hey guys,

I am new here and you guys seem to know what you are talking about so maybe you can help me out.

First I want to let you know I did search (ring, ringing, buzz, turn signal, relay) and I couldn't find anything that helped.

So here is a bit of background.

The car is a 98 Escort ZX2 with stock head unit and amp(I know girlie car, I got it for cheap and I am in school so cheap is good) and everything was fine for a while. then one day it started to have a bit of a ring from the rear speakers, not to loud. It would go away if I turned the stereo off then back on. It was this way for a while, then it started to get worse. It would happen more often and it wouldn't always go away if I turned it off then on. Sometimes it will happen when i hit a bump, sometimes when I first start the car and other times it comes out of nowhere. Sometimes it gets really bad and has a few crackles in it as well. It does not get louder or quieter with the volume and if I turn the volume up it will drown out the ringing. Yesterday I started to hear my turn signal (the relay) through it. I do not know if this is Head unit, amp or a wiring issue.

Thanks for any help you guys can give.

Welcome!! My ears have been ringing for like 2 months now lol, strange, i haven't listened to my system in a long time, i think i damaged my hearing from my other car sigh.. Anyways check the speaker wires, one of them may be grounding on the car's frame somewhere. First i was going to say it's your ground from your deck but if it's stock then that's not likely the problem. There's no amp that you added after? just the stock stereo?

Nothing aftermarket. Stock deck, Amp and wires. I will have to check the speakers, they might be aftermarket.

Can you explain the sounds it's making in more detail, is it like scratchy and popping or more like an electronic ringing sound. I remember back when mp3s first came out they had a ringing sound embedded right in the music, some songs were worse than others. This was caused by converting the music to a very low quality making it faster for people to download. Are you using burned cds?

Actually i just read your post again, if your hearing your turn signal through it then you must have a weak or corroded or broken ground somewhere.
